List of products by brand CHATEAU PUECH-HAUT
Château Puech-Haut extends across 150 hectares at Saint-Drézéry in the Hérault, planted on argilo-calcaire soils and quaternary rolled pebbles on the north-eastern slopes of Montpellier. Since 1980, this Languedoc-Roussillon estate has grown into one of the appellation's most respected names, producing red, white and rosé wines of genuine regional character.
From garrigue to benchmark estate
When Gérard Bru acquired these lands in 1980, he found little more than dense garrigue scrubland and an old olive grove. The Hérault industrialist set about clearing and planting with considerable ambition, progressively building a 150-hectare vineyard from scratch. Over four decades, Château Puech-Haut transformed that unpromising terrain into one of the most recognisable estates in the Languedoc appellation — a testament to long-term investment and a clear vision of what this sun-drenched corner of southern France could produce.
Terroir: altitude, stone and clay
The vineyards sit on the coteaux between 50 and 150 metres of altitude, catching the cooling influence of the north-eastern aspect while benefiting from the generous sunshine of the Hérault. The soils combine argilo-calcaire (clay-limestone) with quaternary rolled pebbles — the latter retaining daytime heat and releasing it overnight, encouraging slow, even ripening. Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre anchor the red and rosé programme, while Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier provide the aromatic backbone for the whites. The diversity of varieties reflects the estate's ambition to express the full breadth of the Languedoc palette.
Organic conversion and a new chapter
The estate is currently engaged in a full organic conversion, a significant undertaking across 150 hectares that underlines a genuine commitment to sustainable viticulture rather than a marketing posture. In 2024, Arnaud Demongeot was appointed as managing director and associate, bringing a modernising energy to the estate's direction while preserving the founding ambition of Gérard Bru. This transition marks a new phase for Château Puech-Haut — one that combines accumulated experience with a sharper focus on precision and environmental responsibility.
The wine range
Château Puech-Haut produces wines across three colours, all within the Languedoc appellation:
- Reds — structured, south-facing assemblages built around Syrah and Grenache, with Mourvèdre and Carignan adding depth and grip; suited to medium to long cellaring.
- Whites — aromatic and textured, drawing on Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier; generous without heaviness, with good length on the palate.
- Rosés — fresh and precise, reflecting the estate's command of the southern French style without concession to the merely commercial.
Why we have selected Château Puech-Haut
We list Château Puech-Haut because it represents the Languedoc appellation with consistency and integrity across its entire range — not simply in a flagship cuvée. The ongoing organic conversion speaks to a seriousness of purpose that we value in the estates we work with. The arrival of Arnaud Demongeot in 2024 adds a further dimension: this is an estate in motion, refining its identity without abandoning what has made it a regional reference over more than forty years.
We recommend these wines to enthusiasts who appreciate the warmth and structure of southern French reds, and who are beginning to explore the increasingly compelling white wines of the Languedoc. At the table, the reds pair naturally with slow-roasted lamb, grilled duck or aged sheep's cheese from the region; the whites are well suited to grilled sea bass, white meats in cream sauce, or a generous plateau of charcuterie.
