Crémant de Bourgogne is one of France's most respected sparkling wine appellations, producing méthode traditionnelle wines from the heart of Burgundy's famous vineyards. While Champagne may be more famous, Crémant de Bourgogne has a loyal following among those who appreciate its more vinous, textured character.

Production and Character

The best Crémant de Bourgogne is made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir — the same varieties as the region's great still wines — and aged on the lees for a minimum of 9 months (12 months for prestige cuvées). The result is a wine with:

Blanc vs. Rosé

Crémant de Bourgogne Blanc — typically Chardonnay-dominated, with fresh apple, citrus, and brioche. The most food-versatile style.

Crémant de Bourgogne Rosé — made primarily from Pinot Noir, producing a delicate salmon-pink wine of fresh strawberry and cherry character. One of France's finest rosé sparkling wines.

Producer Quality

Unlike in Champagne, where grandes maisons dominate, Crémant de Bourgogne is largely made by small domaines and cooperatives. Quality varies significantly, which is why expert selection matters.
