List of products by brand VIGNOBLE DAMPT FRERES

Based in Collan in the Yonne, Vignoble Dampt Frères cultivates 135 hectares of Chardonnay across the Yonne, Serein and Armançon valleys, at the heart of the Chablis appellation. Founded in 1982 by Bernard Dampt, a cereal farmer who planted his first vines at Fyé, the estate was grown by his sons Éric and Emmanuel into one of the appellation's most substantial domaines, central to the revival of the Tonnerrois vineyard. Their wines, grown on Kimmeridgian argilo-calcaire soils and HVE certified, deliver the crisp, stony minerality that defines great Chablis. At Halles Quercamps, we selected this estate for the rigour of its viticulture, the authenticity of its terroir expression and the consistency of its range.

Vignoble Dampt Frères, based in Collan in the Yonne, ranks among the most extensive estates in the Chablis appellation, with 135 hectares spread across three distinct valleys and overseen by brothers Éric and Emmanuel Dampt, sons of the estate's founder.

A pioneering conversion: the origins of Dampt Frères

The story of Vignoble Dampt Frères begins in 1982, when Bernard Dampt — a cereal farmer with no prior winemaking background — decided to plant his first vines at Fyé, on the hillsides of the Yonne valley. It was a bold step at a time when the Chablis vineyard was still recovering from decades of decline, and it placed Bernard among the early figures of a broader regional renewal. His sons Éric and Emmanuel took on the estate with the same pioneering spirit, steadily expanding its reach across three valleys: the Yonne, the Serein and the Armançon. This geographical spread is not merely a matter of scale; it reflects a genuine ambition to express the full diversity of the Chablis terroir, from the classic slopes of the central appellation to the more recently revived vineyards of the Tonnerrois.

Kimmeridgian soils and the signature of Chablis

The 135 hectares farmed by Vignoble Dampt Frères sit predominantly on Kimmeridgian argilo-calcaire soils — the marl and limestone subsoils that geologists and wine lovers alike associate with the most expressive whites of northern Burgundy. These ancient marine sediments, rich in fossilised oyster shells, impart the characteristic flinty, saline edge that sets Chablis apart from other Chardonnay-producing appellations. Éric and Emmanuel Dampt work these soils with close attention, adapting their viticultural approach to the specific character of each valley and each parcel. The result is a range of wines that speak clearly of where they come from, without artifice or over-elaboration.

HVE certification and responsible viticulture

Vignoble Dampt Frères holds Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification, France's most rigorous state-recognised environmental standard for farming. This accreditation covers biodiversity, plant protection, fertilisation management and water resource use — a meaningful commitment for an estate of this size. It reflects a long-term stewardship of the land that goes beyond compliance, and aligns with the broader movement in Chablis towards more thoughtful, sustainable viticulture.

The wine range

Vignoble Dampt Frères produces wines across several colours and styles, all centred on the Chablis appellation and its surrounding Burgundy designations:

  • White wines — the heart of the estate's production, expressing Chardonnay on Kimmeridgian soils with characteristic mineral precision and freshness across the Chablis appellation hierarchy
  • Red wines — produced from Burgundy's other permitted varieties, offering a complementary perspective on the estate's diverse terroir across the three valleys
  • Sparkling wines — a further expression of the estate's range, reflecting the breadth of Bourgogne's effervescent tradition

Why we have selected Vignoble Dampt Frères

We have listed Vignoble Dampt Frères at Halles Quercamps for three straightforward reasons. First, the scale and geographical diversity of the estate — 135 hectares across three valleys — gives us access to a genuinely comprehensive expression of the Chablis appellation, from village level upwards. Second, the estate's HVE certification gives our customers confidence that the wines they are buying are produced with real environmental accountability. Third, and perhaps most importantly, the wines are honest: they taste of Chablis, of Kimmeridgian limestone and cool northern Burgundy, without embellishment. We recommend this estate particularly to those building a serious Chablis selection for the cellar, or seeking a reliable, terroir-driven white Burgundy for the table. The wines pair naturally with oysters, grilled fish, goat's cheese and simply prepared shellfish — classic companions for this most mineral of appellations.
