A name rooted in the landscape

The château takes its name from a lighthouse built in 1825 on the estate's land — a landmark visible from the estuary and a lasting emblem of the property's identity. That lighthouse still stands today, giving the château one of the most recognisable silhouettes in the northern Médoc. The history of the place stretches back to 1599, making it one of the older continuously worked wine estates in the region.

The Pagès family and a half-century of stewardship

In 1965, Marc Pagès and his associates acquired Château la Tour de By and set about restoring and developing the estate with long-term ambition. The 94 hectares span two distinct soil types: graves garonnaises at Bégadan, and gravel over an argilo-calcaire subsoil at Saint-Christoly-de-Médoc. The vines face the Gironde on gently sloping ridges, benefiting from good sun exposure and the moderating influence of the estuary. The encépagement is classically Médocain: 60% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot — a blend that delivers structure, depth, and the capacity to age.
