Four generations, one family, one hillside

The story begins in 1933, when Louis Belle planted his first vines in Larnage and went on to become a co-founder of the celebrated Tain-l'Hermitage cooperative. That founding spirit — rooted in the land, committed to the collective — has shaped the estate's character ever since. In 1990, Albert and Philippe Belle took the decisive step of establishing Domaine Belle as an independent producer, bringing the family's accumulated knowledge of these slopes under a single roof. Today, the fourth generation — Guillaume and Valentin Belle — ensures continuity, combining respect for what has been built with the energy and precision that the current era demands. It is a family story told not in grand gestures but in the quiet accumulation of good vintages.

Terroir: a mosaic of soils on well-exposed slopes

The 38 hectares farmed by Domaine Belle span a varied mosaic of soils that gives the range much of its complexity. On the Hermitage hill, granite and kaolin-rich terres blanches provide the mineral backbone and tension that define the appellation's finest expressions. Across the broader Crozes-Hermitage plateau, argilo-calcareous soils, sands and rounded galets bring a different register — rounder, more accessible in youth, but no less serious in the right hands. All parcels benefit from well-exposed hillside positions that encourage even ripening and natural concentration.
