List of products by brand CHATEAU ROUBINE
Château Roubine stands among the most compelling estates in the Côtes de Provence appellation: 72 hectares of Demeter-certified biodynamic vines at Lorgues, in the Var, planted on clay-limestone soils with east-west-facing slopes and yields held to a disciplined 40 hl/ha.
A Provençal estate with roots in the fourteenth century
The history of Château Roubine reaches back to the 1300s. The land was first held by the Knights Templar, then passed to the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem — two of the great religious and military orders of medieval Europe. This long continuity of stewardship speaks to the quality of the site itself: estates of this age and pedigree do not survive by accident. When Valérie Rousselle took over in 1994, she inherited both a remarkable terroir and a responsibility to honour it. Her response was unequivocal: a thorough, unhurried conversion towards organic and then biodynamic viticulture, culminating in full AB and Demeter certification in 2017.
Terroir: clay-limestone soils on east-west slopes
The 72 hectares of Château Roubine sit on the clay-limestone (argilo-calcaire) soils characteristic of the Lorgues basin, in the heart of the Var département. East-west-facing slopes ensure balanced sun exposure across the growing season, moderating the intensity of the Provençal summer while allowing the grapes to ripen evenly. The encépagement reflects the full palette of Provence: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre for the reds and rosés, alongside Rolle, Tibouren and Cinsault — varieties that reward careful, low-intervention farming and express the garrigue-scented, mineral character that distinguishes the finest Côtes de Provence.
Biodynamic farming and Demeter certification
Biodynamics at Château Roubine is not a marketing posture. The estate follows the full Demeter protocol — lunar calendar, homeopathic preparations, closed-loop soil management — at yields of just 40 hl/ha. The result is a vine under no stress, a soil alive with microbial activity, and wines that carry a genuine sense of place. The Demeter mark, awarded in 2017, remains one of the most demanding certifications in European viticulture and is a reliable indicator of long-term commitment rather than short-term trend.
The wine range: red, white and rosé across the Côtes de Provence
- Rosé: The estate's most emblematic colour in Provence — pale, precise, built on Grenache, Cinsault and Tibouren, with the freshness and mineral length that the appellation does best.
- Red: Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre give structure and depth; the clay-limestone soils lend a firm backbone suited to a few years of cellaring.
- White: Rolle-led, with the aromatic generosity and textural weight that makes white Côtes de Provence an increasingly serious proposition for the table.
Why we have selected Château Roubine
At Halles Quercamps, we look for producers whose commitment to their terroir is visible in the glass, not merely on the label. Château Roubine meets that standard on every count. Valérie Rousselle's decision to pursue Demeter certification — the most rigorous biodynamic standard available — reflects a long-term vision that we find rare and worth supporting. The diversity of the encépagement, spanning six varieties across three colours, gives our customers genuine choice within a coherent house style. And the 40 hl/ha yield discipline ensures that each bottle carries real concentration without artifice. This estate is particularly suited to customers building a Provençal cellar, or to those seeking a thoughtful, certified-organic gift for a serious wine lover. At the table, the rosés are natural partners for grilled fish, ratatouille and fresh chèvre; the reds reward lamb and herb-roasted vegetables.
