List of products by brand CHATEAU LA COUSPAUDE

Established on the limestone plateau and eastern slopes of Saint-Émilion, Château la Couspaude covers 7 hectares of Grand Cru Classé vines on clay-limestone and chalky soils in the Gironde. Founded in 1739, it passed to Prosper-Jean Robin in 1908 and the Aubert family in 1941, earning Grand Cru Classé status in 1996 before the Flurin family — owners of Bellefont Belcier — took over in 2026. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon thrive on these well-drained terroirs, producing structured, precise reds. At Halles Quercamps, we selected this château for its plateau terroir, HVE-certified viticulture, and the continuity of its classified standing. A Saint-Émilion of real substance, rooted in one of Bordeaux's most storied communes.

Château la Couspaude is a Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, planted on the limestone plateau and eastern slopes of the commune. Its 7 hectares of HVE-certified vines rest on clay-limestone, chalk, and limestone soils of remarkable consistency — a terroir that gives the wines their structure and precision.

A Bordeaux château with nearly three centuries of history

The origins of Château la Couspaude trace back to 1739, placing it among the most historically documented properties in the Saint-Émilion appellation. In 1908, Prosper-Jean Robin acquired the château, and in 1941 it passed — through marriage — into the hands of the Aubert family, who would steward it through much of the twentieth century. The defining milestone came in 1996, when the château was promoted to Grand Cru Classé in the Saint-Émilion classification, a recognition of the quality and consistency that the estate had demonstrated over successive vintages.

Terroir: limestone plateau and eastern slopes

The 7-hectare vineyard sits at the heart of the Saint-Émilion appellation, on the elevated limestone plateau and the coteaux facing east — exposures that favour slow, even ripening and natural drainage. The soils combine argilo-calcaire (clay-limestone), chalk, and pure limestone, a classic Saint-Émilion profile that imparts both freshness and the capacity to age gracefully. The encépagement is led by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and a proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon — a blend well suited to these well-drained, mineral-rich soils.

HVE certification and a new chapter under the Flurin family

In early 2026, Château la Couspaude was acquired by Pierre-Henri and Véronique Flurin, who also own Bellefont Belcier, another classified Saint-Émilion property. The château holds HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) certification, reflecting a commitment to environmentally responsible viticulture — reduced inputs, preserved biodiversity, and careful management of the vineyard ecosystem. This transition to new ownership brings fresh energy while preserving the classified standing and the terroir identity that define this Bordeaux address.

The wines of Château la Couspaude

The château produces exclusively red wines under the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé appellation. Expect the following from the range:

  • Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé (rouge) — the grand vin of the château, drawing on Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon from the limestone plateau and eastern slopes; structured, precise, and built for the cellar.

Why we have selected Château la Couspaude

At Halles Quercamps, we have listed Château la Couspaude for three clear reasons. First, the coherence of its terroir: the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion is one of the most reliable foundations for structured, age-worthy red Bordeaux, and this château sits squarely within it. Second, the rigour of its viticulture: HVE certification is a meaningful benchmark, and we value producers who manage their land with genuine environmental responsibility. Third, the continuity of its classified standing since 1996, now reinforced by owners with a proven track record in the appellation.

This château will appeal to confirmed Bordeaux enthusiasts seeking a Grand Cru Classé with genuine terroir expression rather than mere label prestige. At the table, we suggest pairing these wines with roast lamb with herbs, a côte de bœuf, or aged hard cheeses — dishes that meet the structure of a Saint-Émilion with equal substance.
