Set on the maritime slopes of La Clape at Saint-Pierre-la-Mer in the Aude, Château d'Anglès covers 45 hectares of hard limestone scree and rounded galets within the Languedoc appellation, shaped by the Mediterranean. Documented as early as 1226 under the Baillys d'Anglès, the estate was restructured from 2001 by Eric Fabre — formerly technical director at Château Lafite Rothschild — and his wife Christine, bringing Bordeaux precision to a resolutely southern terroir. The result is a range of reds, whites, and rosés of genuine character, all produced under HVE certification. At Halles Quercamps, we selected this estate for its exceptional terroir, rigorous viticulture, and the clarity of its wines. A Languedoc of real substance, rooted in its soil.

Château d'Anglès is a rare find in the Languedoc: a historic estate where limestone garrigue meets the Mediterranean breeze, and where the discipline of a great Bordeaux training has been purposefully applied to a resolutely southern terroir.

Eight centuries of history on the La Clape massif

The estate is documented as early as 1226, managed by the Baillys d'Anglès — a lineage lending it historical weight unusual even by Languedoc standards. Situated at Saint-Pierre-la-Mer in the Aude, it sits within the La Clape massif, a dramatic limestone outcrop rising from the coastal plain between Narbonne and the sea.

In 2001, Eric Fabre and his wife Christine took over and thoroughly restructured the vineyard. Fabre's background as technical director at Château Lafite Rothschild is significant: that attention to detail and long-term thinking is legible in every aspect of how the estate is run today.

Terroir: limestone, galets, and the Mediterranean influence

The estate covers 45 hectares on soils of hard limestone scree (éboulis calcaires) and rounded galets roulés — draining freely, stressing the vine beneficially, and concentrating flavour without heaviness. Mediterranean proximity moderates temperatures, extends the growing season, and introduces a saline freshness that sets La Clape apart from the broader Languedoc hinterland. Varieties include Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan for reds and rosés; Bourboulenc, Roussanne, and Marsanne for whites.

HVE certification and a commitment to the land

Château d'Anglès holds HVE certification (Haute Valeur Environnementale), governing biodiversity, water management, and input use across the full 45-hectare vineyard — consistent with the Fabres' philosophy of working the land with care and letting the La Clape terroir speak clearly in the finished wines.

The wine range: red, white, and rosé from La Clape

The estate produces all three colours within the Languedoc appellation:

  • Reds — built on Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Grenache; structured by limestone soils and Mediterranean warmth; suited to the cellar as well as the table.
  • Whites — from Bourboulenc, Roussanne, and Marsanne; a rare coastal combination offering texture and a mineral, almost saline character.
  • Rosés — fresh, precise, and food-friendly; a natural expression of the estate's maritime setting.

Why we selected Château d'Anglès

We selected Château d'Anglès for Halles Quercamps because it offers genuine historical roots, a clearly defined terroir, and a winemaker whose credentials are beyond question. Eric Fabre's formation at Château Lafite Rothschild informs the precision and consistency we find across the range, vintage after vintage. The HVE certification adds further confidence for those who care about how their wine is grown. The reds pair beautifully with slow-cooked lamb, game, and aged cheeses; the whites are a natural match for grilled fish, shellfish, and herb-scented Mediterranean dishes.
