List of products by brand CHATEAU D'AYDIE
Château d'Aydie represents Madiran at its most uncompromising: a contrasted terroir, a demanding grape variety, and a family that has held its course since 1927. A château we list with genuine conviction.
Rooted in the history of Madiran
In 1927, Frédéric Laplace laid the foundations of one of the most respected properties in the Madiran appellation. Nearly a century on, the famille Laplace oversees every aspect of the estate, maintaining a direct connection between land and bottle. In 1982, the family acquired the neighbouring Château Belle-Époque — formerly owned by Béarnais writer Joseph Peyré, Prix Goncourt 1935 — consolidating their position within the appellation.
Terroir: 58 hectares of contrasting soils
Château d'Aydie cultivates 58 hectares across the hillsides of Aydie, Pyrénées-Atlantiques. South-facing slopes allow Tannat to reach full maturity. Soils vary across the estate: argilo-calcaires and argilo-graveleux on the mid-slopes, rounded galets on higher terraces, and lighter boulbènes on the lower reaches — a geological diversity reflected in the range of cuvées produced.
Varieties planted include Tannat, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Fer Servadou for reds, alongside Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng for whites.
HVE certification and responsible viticulture
The estate holds HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) certification, recognising rigorous standards across biodiversity, plant protection, fertilisation, and water management. For us at Halles Quercamps, this reflects a considered approach to the land — not a marketing exercise — and aligns with the values we look for in our range.
The wine range
The château produces reds and whites under the Madiran appellation across different styles and price points:
- Reds (Madiran) — Tannat-dominant blends with Cabernet Franc or Cabernet Sauvignon; structured, tannic, built for medium to long ageing.
- Whites (Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh) — From Petit and Gros Manseng; ranging from dry and aromatic to richer, more unctuous styles by cuvée and vintage.
Why we have selected Château d'Aydie
Three reasons underpin our selection: the integrity of 58 hectares under HVE certification; the soil diversity that produces genuine complexity; and unbroken family continuity since 1927, bringing accumulated terroir knowledge and a refusal to cut corners.
We recommend these wines to enthusiasts seeking structured, age-worthy South-West reds beyond Bordeaux. The reds pair beautifully with confit de canard, slow-roasted lamb, or aged hard cheese. Petit Manseng whites are a natural match for foie gras or rich poultry.
