List of products by brand DOMAINE DE RIMAURESQ
Domaine de Rimauresq stands among the most established names in Provençal wine: a Cru Classé since 1955, certified organic, and spread across 60 hectares at Pignans in the Var, on soils of remarkable geological diversity. Red, white and rosé are produced here with equal seriousness.
A domaine rooted in Provençal history
The story of Domaine de Rimauresq reaches back to 1864, making it one of the oldest properties within the Côtes de Provence appellation. Devastated by phylloxera, the estate was painstakingly reconstituted in 1882 by Augustin Isnard, whose work laid the foundations for the vineyard as it exists today. That perseverance was rewarded in 1955, when Rimauresq was included in the original classification of Crus Classés de Provence — a distinction that remains one of the most meaningful quality benchmarks the region offers, covering fewer than twenty estates across the entire appellation.
The Wemyss family and the turn towards organic farming
In 1988, the Scottish Wemyss family acquired the estate, bringing with them a long-term vision and a commitment to quality that has shaped every subsequent decision. The most significant of these came in 2016, when the family initiated the conversion to certified organic agriculture — a choice that reflects both an ethical conviction and a belief that the soils of Rimauresq are best expressed without synthetic inputs. Certification has since been achieved, and the estate now farms its 60 hectares entirely to organic standards.
Terroir: schist, pink sandstone and rounded pebbles
The vineyards at Pignans sit on north-west-facing slopes, a cooler exposure that preserves freshness and extends the growing season relative to many Provençal sites. The soils are a geologist's study in contrasts: clay-schist and crystalline formations dominate, interspersed with sandy patches, rounded galets, degraded schist and the distinctive pink sandstone — grès rose — that gives the wines a mineral signature rarely found elsewhere in the appellation. The grape varieties planted reflect the full breadth of Provence: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Cinsault for the reds and rosés; Rolle and Ugni Blanc for the whites.
The wines of Domaine de Rimauresq
Across all three colours, the estate produces wines that carry the character of their terroir rather than the hand of the winemaker. The range includes:
- Rosé — the flagship of the estate, as befits a Provençal Cru Classé: pale, precise, and built on Grenache, Cinsault and Tibouren, with the mineral lift that the schist and pink sandstone soils reliably deliver.
- Rouge — structured and unhurried, drawing on Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre from the north-west-facing slopes; wines that reward patience in the cellar.
- Blanc — produced from Rolle and Ugni Blanc, offering aromatic freshness and a textural depth that makes Provençal white wine a more serious proposition than many expect.
Why we have selected Domaine de Rimauresq
At Halles Quercamps, we list Domaine de Rimauresq because it represents something increasingly rare: a Cru Classé de Provence that justifies its classification on the evidence of the wine in the glass, vintage after vintage. The combination of a genuinely ancient terroir, rigorous organic viticulture and the long-term commitment of the Wemyss family produces a coherence across the range that we find compelling. We recommend the estate's wines to those who have moved beyond Provence as a summer rosé and wish to explore what the appellation can achieve at its most serious. The rosé is an obvious starting point for a warm-weather table, but the rouge deserves equal attention alongside lamb or game. The blanc, meanwhile, pairs beautifully with the fish and shellfish of the Mediterranean coast — or, closer to home, with a well-sourced piece of turbot.
