A château rooted in Saint-Émilion history

Founded in 1862 as Château Couperie, the estate was acquired in 1955 by Marcel Dassault — founder of the Dassault aviation group — who gave it his name. The family, through Dassault Wine Estates, has since steered the property with the same precision and long-term thinking that characterises the wider group. The Grand Cru Classé classification followed in 1969, and in 2022 the integration of neighbouring Faurie de Souchard extended the estate to its current 40 hectares.

Terroir and soils

The vineyard sits on a north-facing slope in Saint-Émilion, Gironde, across a mosaic of soil types. Upper parcels rest on argilo-calcaire over limestone bedrock, while lower sections transition to clay over calcaire and, further out, to argilo-sableux and sablo-argileux blends. This calcareous foundation allows each variety to express itself distinctly within the blend.

The encépagement is led by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The north-facing exposure moderates ripening, preserving freshness and structural tension — a quality particularly valued in warmer vintages.

Certification and vineyard approach

Château Dassault holds HVE certification (Haute Valeur Environnementale), France's national framework for sustainable viticulture, covering biodiversity, plant protection, fertilisation, and water stewardship. The wines

The château produces exclusively red wines under the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé appellation:

  • Château Dassault Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé — the grand vin, a Merlot-led blend from the finest parcels, offering structure, depth, and ageing potential of a decade or more.
  • Second wine / négociant selection — earlier-drinking expressions from younger vines or selected parcels, sharing the same winemaking rigour at a more accessible stage of maturity.
