Grand Cru Classé since 1969

  • The estate, formerly Château Couperie, was acquired and renamed by Marcel Dassault in 1955. Today it remains a cornerstone of Saint-Émilion's classified growths, producing wines of considerable depth and refinement.
  • This vintage displays impressive structure and balance, with the substance to develop gracefully over the coming decade. The ancient sandy soils and clay subsoil impart a distinctive minerality that will evolve beautifully with time.
  • The wine marries opulent fruit with restrained elegance. Ripe cassis and dark cherry are tempered by fine tannins and aromatic finesse, creating a wine of genuine complexity rather than mere power.

Breeding
14 to 18 months in French oak barrels (approximately 60% new wood)
On the eye
Deep garnet robe with violet glints, reflecting the wine's fine concentration and maturity.
On the nose
Intense bouquet of ripe dark fruits—blackcurrant, wild blackberry and preserved black cherry. With aeration, notes of dark chocolate, vanilla and liquorice emerge, testament to its careful élevage in oak.
In the mouth
The palate is immediately generous, with a pleasing roundness that masks considerable structure. Ripe tannins provide grip without severity, whilst the finish is long and composed.
M. Francois
A classically styled Saint-Émilion that affirms the terroir's capacity for richness without sacrificing finesse. The wine's voluptuous character and aromatic depth make it an ideal companion to duck with figs or herb-crusted lamb. Drinking well now, with potential to evolve for ten years or more.
