List of products by brand CHATEAU BOUSCAUT

Situated at Cadaujac in the heart of Pessac-Léognan, Château Bouscaut covers 47 hectares of clay-limestone soils over Garonne gravels, classified Grand Cru de Graves in both red and white since 1953. A viticultural estate since the seventeenth century, it was acquired by Lucien Lurton in 1979 and passed to Sophie Lurton-Cogombles and Laurent Cogombles in 1992, who led a full conversion to certified organic and HVE farming. At Halles Quercamps, we selected this château for the precision of its Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc whites, the depth of its Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon reds, and the rigour applied throughout the cellar. A Grand Cru Classé de Graves managed with genuine ambition.

Château Bouscaut stands among the select few properties in Pessac-Léognan to hold Grand Cru Classé de Graves status for both red and white wines — a distinction it has carried since 1953. Based at Cadaujac in the Gironde, this 47-hectare château combines a history stretching back to the seventeenth century with a thoroughly modern commitment to certified organic viticulture.

A château rooted in Bordeaux history

The origins of Château Bouscaut reach back to the seventeenth century, when the estate was known as Haut-Truchon. By 1876, the property had taken the shape and name we recognise today. Over the following century it changed hands several times before Lucien Lurton — one of the great figures of the Bordeaux wine world — acquired it in 1979. In 1992, he passed the château to his daughter Sophie Lurton-Cogombles and her husband Laurent Cogombles, who have steered it with quiet determination ever since. Their tenure has been defined not by dramatic reinvention but by a patient, methodical raising of standards: in the vineyard, in the cellar, and in the estate's relationship with its land.

Terroir: clay-limestone over Garonne gravels

The 47 hectares of Château Bouscaut sit on argilo-calcaire soils over Garonne gravels, the classic substratum of the southern Graves. The slopes face due south, offering excellent sun exposure throughout the growing season and natural drainage that keeps the vines in gentle tension. Red varieties — Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a small proportion of Malbec — occupy the majority of the vineyard, while Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc account for the white wine parcels. This dual encépagement, rare in the appellation, is precisely what earned Bouscaut its double classification in both colours.

Organic certification and responsible farming

Under Sophie and Laurent's stewardship, Château Bouscaut has converted fully to agriculture biologique, now certified both under the EU organic label and HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale). The decision reflects a long-term vision for the land rather than a marketing exercise: cover crops, reduced inputs, and careful canopy management have progressively improved soil health and vine balance. The result is a viticulture that respects the specificity of each parcel and allows the terroir of Cadaujac to express itself with greater clarity in the glass.

The wines of Château Bouscaut

  • Château Bouscaut Rouge (Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru Classé) — a Merlot-led blend with Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec; structured, cellar-worthy, with the gravelly depth characteristic of southern Pessac-Léognan.
  • Château Bouscaut Blanc (Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru Classé) — Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc; precise, textured, and age-worthy, with the breadth that distinguishes the finest white Graves from other Bordeaux blancs.

Why we have selected Château Bouscaut

At Halles Quercamps, we have followed Château Bouscaut closely for a number of years, and our selection rests on three clear convictions. First, the double Grand Cru Classé de Graves status — in red and white — is genuinely earned and consistently reflected in the wines. Second, the organic and HVE certifications speak to a seriousness of purpose that goes beyond compliance. Third, and perhaps most importantly, the whites here are among the most compelling in the appellation: the Sémillon brings weight and longevity, the Sauvignon Blanc brings freshness and definition, and the two varieties are blended with real intelligence. We recommend this château to enthusiasts building a cellar of classified Bordeaux, and equally to those who believe the finest white Bordeaux deserves as much attention as the finest red. At the table, the rouge pairs beautifully with roast lamb or aged hard cheeses; the blanc is a natural companion to grilled turbot or a fine terrine de foie gras.
