List of products by brand CHAMPAGNE A.BERGERE
In Fèrebrianges, a quiet village in the Marne nestled between the Vallée du Petit Morin and the Côte des Blancs, the A.Bergere House represents a demanding and deeply personal vision of Champagne: a 45-hectare family estate in organic conversion, where each plot is vinified separately to honour the character of its soils.
A winemaking family since 1848
The Bergère family has cultivated vines at Fèrebrianges since 1848 — long before Champagne became the globally recognised appellation it is today. That continuity of place and purpose is not incidental; it shapes everything the House does. Albert Bergère formalised the family's ambitions by founding the A.Bergere marque in 1949, giving commercial form to generations of viticultural knowledge. André took over in 1986, steadily extending the vineyard holdings and consolidating the House's identity within this less-celebrated corner of the Champagne region.
A new chapter: Adrien Bergère and parcel vinification
The most significant turning point in recent decades came in 2014, when Adrien Bergère — trained as an oenologist — joined the family operation. His arrival brought both technical precision and a renewed philosophical commitment: to let the land speak. Adrien introduced parcel-by-parcel vinification, treating each plot as a distinct voice within the final assemblage rather than blending everything from the outset. Alongside this, he initiated the transition to organic farming, placing the entire 45-hectare vineyard in conversion bio — a meaningful commitment in a region where the pressure to produce at scale is considerable.
Terroir: the Vallée du Petit Morin and Côte des Blancs
The A.Bergere vineyards are spread across the hillsides of the Vallée du Petit Morin, with soils ranging from pure limestone and flint to clay-limestone combinations. These varied substrates, typical of the Marne's geological complexity, lend themselves naturally to the House's four principal varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and the rare Petit Meslier — a near-forgotten Champenois variety whose inclusion speaks to the House's appetite for authenticity over convention. The proximity to the Côte des Blancs brings an additional dimension of chalky minerality to the Chardonnay parcels in particular.
The wine range
A.Bergere produces across three colour families, each reflecting the diversity of their terroir and the rigour of their parcel-led approach:
- Sparkling (Effervescent) — the heart of the House, encompassing blanc de blancs, blanc de noirs, and multi-varietal assemblages, all shaped by parcel vinification and organic farming in conversion.
- White (Blanc) — still wines from the estate's Chardonnay and Petit Meslier parcels, offering a rare still expression of this Champagne terroir.
- Red (Rouge) — still red wines produced from Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, a reminder that the Champagne appellation encompasses more than sparkling wine alone.
Why we have selected A.Bergere
At Halles Quercamps, we are drawn to producers who work with conviction rather than convention, and the A.Bergere House embodies precisely that. Three things set this House apart in our view: first, the seriousness of Adrien Bergère's parcel-by-parcel approach, which brings a Burgundian rigour to a region more often associated with large-scale blending; second, the commitment to organic conversion across all 45 hectares, at a time when many Champagne producers still hesitate; and third, the inclusion of Petit Meslier — a variety that demands more of the grower and rewards the drinker with something genuinely distinctive.
We recommend these wines to enthusiasts who know their Champagne well and are ready to explore beyond the grandes maisons. They pair beautifully with oysters, grilled fish, and aged comté, and make a considered, personal gift for any serious wine lover.
