A vignoble built from classified parcels

Château Gloria was founded by Henri Martin, a cooper by trade and mayor of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle for several decades — a figure who left an indelible mark on the appellation. His ambition was straightforward but demanding: to assemble a vineyard of genuine quality by acquiring parcels exclusively from Classified Growths, piecing together a coherent estate where none had previously existed. The result, over time, was a 50-hectare holding in the Saint-Julien appellation whose raw material was, from the outset, of classified calibre.

Terroir: Günzian gravel across three distinct sectors

The vineyard sits across three separate areas within the appellation: the centre of Beychevelle, the western and northern reaches of Saint-Julien, and the boundary with Pauillac. Soils throughout are graves günziennes — ancient Günzian gravel — resting on a subsoil of clay and sand. This is classic Médoc terroir: well-drained, warm, ideally suited to the four varieties planted here — Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The diversity of exposures across three sectors adds complexity to the blending options available each vintage.

Organic certification and a new generation of rigour

In 1991, the Triaud-Martin family — Jean-Louis Triaud and Françoise Martin — took over stewardship of the château, continuing the work begun by Henri Martin while bringing fresh energy to the estate. The most significant recent development is the achievement of agriculture biologique certification in 2024, a conversion undertaken with the support of consultant Jean-Michel Comme, formerly of Pontet-Canet, whose expertise in organic viticulture in the Médoc is well established. This certification marks a considered, long-term commitment to the health of the vineyard and the integrity of the fruit.
