Premier Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion

  • A wine of considerable ageing potential. La Mondotte is built for the cellar, with the structure and complexity to develop gracefully over decades. A serious Saint-Émilion for the collector.
  • Situated amongst the finest terroirs of the appellation, the vineyard neighbours the celebrated Château Troplong-Mondot. This proximity to premium sites reflects in the wine's character and depth.
  • The average age of the vines exceeds fifty years, lending concentration and maturity to the fruit. Older vines produce wines of greater complexity and mineral precision.

Breeding
100% new oak barrels for 18 to 24 months
On the eye
Deep garnet with purple highlights. A wine of considerable colour intensity.
On the nose
Powerful fruit aromas dominate—dark cherry and plum—with secondary notes of tobacco leaf and cedar emerging as the wine opens. Considerable aromatic complexity.
In the mouth
The Merlot provides roundness and opulence; the Cabernet Franc contributes power, aromatic complexity, and a long, structured finish. The palate is well-balanced, with fine tannins and excellent length.
M. Francois
I have long admired La Mondotte for its restraint and breeding. This is Saint-Émilion in the classical mould—elegant rather than showy, built for the table and the cellar alike. I find it particularly rewarding with game: a roasted partridge with wild mushrooms and grapes would be an ideal pairing. A wine for the serious collector.
