A dependable Pomerol for any table

  • This is quintessential Pomerol: a wine that expresses the appellation's characteristic richness and structure. Chateau Rouget's 2017 vintage demonstrates the terroir's generous merlot-based character with admirable restraint.
  • The wine will develop secondary notes of leather and forest floor as it matures in bottle over the coming years, adding further complexity and depth to its current dark fruit profile.
  • We source directly from the château, allowing us to offer this wine at a level that reflects its true merit without the customary merchant markup.

Product features : Chateau Rouget 2017 — Pomerol

Breeding
Aged in barrels for approximately 18 months
On the eye
Deep purple-black robe, almost opaque, with considerable density and depth
On the nose
Aromas of dark cherry and blackcurrant, underscored by earthy notes of truffle and mineral undertones, with gentle spice on the finish
In the mouth
Supple and full-bodied, with the silken texture that merlot brings to Pomerol. The palate shows good concentration and a caressing mid-palate, with fine-grained tannins that promise graceful evolution.
M. Francois
A wine of genuine versatility at table. Its structure and fruit weight make it equally at home with roasted game or beef, yet the textural softness suggests it would complement chocolate-based desserts with surprising elegance. Drink now or cellar for five to eight years.

CHATEAU ROUGET

Established across 17 hectares at the heart of the Pomerol plateau, Château Rouget is one of the most historically documented châteaux in this prestigious Bordeaux appellation, with records stretching back to 1700 and a ranking among the five finest crus of Pomerol as early as 1868. Since the Labruyère family took ownership in 1992, a thorough programme of replanting and renovation has restored the château to its full potential: clay-gravel and clay-silica soils over a ferruginous alios subsoil, planted predominantly with Merlot at 85%. At Halles Quercamps, we selected this château for the depth, consistency, and fleshy, structured character of its reds — a faithful expression of the finest Pomerol terroir.
