List of products by brand CHATEAU ROL VALENTIN

Spread across 7 hectares at Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse in the Gironde, Château Rol Valentin produces red wines under the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé appellation, across two distinct terroirs of clay-limestone and ancient sand over clay. Founded in 1994, the château was taken over in 2009 by Alexandra and Nicolas Robin, who steered it to Grand Cru Classé classification in 2022, with disciplined yields of 35 hl/ha and HVE certification. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the rigour of its viticulture, the coherence of its two terroirs, and the remarkable progress achieved by the Robin family over fifteen years. A Saint-Émilion of real character, firmly rooted in its soils.

Château Rol Valentin covers 7 hectares at Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse, on the eastern edge of the Saint-Émilion appellation. Classified Grand Cru Classé in 2022, this château led by Alexandra and Nicolas Robin stands as a compelling example of what the Bordeaux right bank can achieve when terroir and ambition are pursued with consistency.

A château with a singular origin, shaped by a committed family

Château Rol Valentin was founded in 1994 by Éric Prissette, a former professional footballer, under the name Clos Valentin. In 2009, Alexandra and Nicolas Robin acquired the property and set about a patient, methodical transformation — refining the viticulture, clarifying the winemaking, and building the reputation of the estate vintage by vintage. The reward came in 2022, when the château was elevated to Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé status, a classification that reflects not only the quality of the terroir but the sustained effort of the Robin family over more than a decade. It is the kind of trajectory that commands genuine respect in the Bordeaux trade.

Two distinct terroirs, one coherent vision

The 7 hectares of Château Rol Valentin are divided between two clearly differentiated soil types. Approximately 1.80 hectares of ancient sand over clay sit on flatter ground, while the remaining 5.50 hectares of clay-limestone extend across the slopes and plateau — the classic substrate of the finest Saint-Émilion estates. The vineyards benefit from two distinct exposures: the plateau and slopes of Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse to the east, and a north-western sector bordering Saint-Émilion itself. Together, these two terroirs bring complementary dimensions to the wines: freshness and aromatic precision from the sandy soils, structure and depth from the clay-limestone. The encépagement is built around Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the classic pairing of the right bank, with yields held to a disciplined 35 hl/ha — a figure that reflects a clear commitment to concentration and quality over volume.

HVE certification and a responsible approach to the vineyard

Château Rol Valentin holds High Environmental Value (HVE) certification, the French national standard recognising responsible vineyard management across biodiversity, plant protection, fertilisation, and water use. For the Robin family, this is not a marketing exercise but a coherent extension of their broader ambition: to produce wines that express their terroir honestly and last well in the cellar.

Why we have selected Château Rol Valentin

We have listed Château Rol Valentin because its story is one of genuine merit rather than inherited prestige. The Robin family took on a modest property in 2009 and, through rigorous work in the vineyard and a clear sense of purpose in the cellar, earned a Grand Cru Classé classification in 2022 — one of the most demanding benchmarks in Bordeaux. We are drawn to the clarity of the two-terroir approach, the restrained yields, and the HVE commitment, all of which point to a château that takes the long view.

These wines are well suited to the confirmed Bordeaux amateur who values terroir expression over overt power, and who is building a cellar with patience in mind. At the table, they pair naturally with roast lamb, duck confit, or a well-aged hard cheese — the classic companions of a serious right-bank red.
