A Saint-Émilion Grand Cru of genuine substance and finesse

  • This 2016 combines power with elegance, delivering a wine of considerable presence without heaviness. The structure is well-defined, the tannins ripe and integrated, making it approachable now whilst retaining the backbone for patient cellaring.
  • The élevage in oak has imparted subtle toasted and spiced notes that complement rather than dominate. These secondary characteristics add complexity and textural depth to the wine's dark fruit foundation.
  • A dependable choice for the table, equally at home with roasted meats, game, or a carefully composed cheese course. The wine's balance and moderate alcohol make it a versatile companion to fine dining.

Breeding
In oak barrels (with a significant proportion of new wood) for approximately 18 months
On the eye
Deep purple robe with intense violet glints at the rim; the colour suggests ripeness and concentration.
On the nose
The bouquet opens with dark berry fruit—blackcurrant and plum—layered with chocolate and subtle spice notes from the oak élevage. The aromatics are well-integrated and evolve with aeration.
In the mouth
The palate is creamy and rich, with a generous mid-palate that fills the mouth with impressive textural softness. The tannins are ripe and well-resolved, providing structure without astringency. The finish is clean and persistent.
M. Francois
This wine performs admirably with a well-composed cheese board, particularly aged Comté or Époisses, where its structure and fruit balance provide an excellent foil. It is equally suited to roasted game birds or beef dishes with earthy accompaniments. Drink now through 2028.

CHATEAU ROL VALENTIN

Spread across 7 hectares at Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse in the Gironde, Château Rol Valentin produces red wines under the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé appellation, across two distinct terroirs of clay-limestone and ancient sand over clay. Founded in 1994, the château was taken over in 2009 by Alexandra and Nicolas Robin, who steered it to Grand Cru Classé classification in 2022, with disciplined yields of 35 hl/ha and HVE certification. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the rigour of its viticulture, the coherence of its two terroirs, and the remarkable progress achieved by the Robin family over fifteen years. A Saint-Émilion of real character, firmly rooted in its soils.
