List of products by brand CHATEAU REYNON
Château Reynon, at Béguey in the Gironde, represents some of the most accomplished and honest winemaking the Bordeaux appellation has to offer: terroir-driven, precise wines across three colours, underpinned by the intellectual and viticultural legacy of the Dubourdieu family across 33 HVE-certified hectares.
A château with deep roots in the Bordeaux vineyard
The property's origins reach back to the fifteenth century, when it was known as the Château de Béguey. Acquired in 1958 by Jacques David, it took a defining turn in 1976 when Denis Dubourdieu — oenologist at the University of Bordeaux and widely regarded as one of the foremost authorities on white Bordeaux — took over the estate. His influence on the understanding of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon in the Gironde was profound, earning him the informal title of « le pape du blanc ». Under his direction, and now continued by the Vignobles Denis Dubourdieu Domaines, Château Reynon became a reference point not merely for the Cadillac area but for the Bordeaux appellation as a whole.
Terroir: a mosaic of soils on south-facing slopes
The 33 hectares at Béguey sit on a varied mosaic of soils that gives the wines their complexity and definition. Deep graves over clay subsoils dominate the upper slopes, lending structure and mineral tension to the reds and whites alike. Mid-slope, argilo-calcaire soils bring freshness and aromatic lift, while sandy soils at the foot of the hillside contribute suppleness and early approachability. The coteaux face south and south-east, ensuring generous, even ripening across the Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc, and Sémillon planted here.
HVE certification and a rigorous approach in the vineyard
Château Reynon holds Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification, reflecting a genuine commitment to sustainable viticulture: careful management of biodiversity, reduced inputs, and a long-term stewardship of the land. This is not a recent marketing decision but a natural extension of the Dubourdieu family's belief that great wine begins in a healthy, well-tended vineyard. The winemaking follows the same philosophy — precise, respectful of the fruit, and attentive to the distinct character each soil type brings to the final blend.
The wine range: red, white, and rosé Bordeaux
Château Reynon produces wines across all three colours under the Bordeaux appellation:
- Bordeaux Rouge — principally Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot; structured yet approachable, with the depth that deep graves soils provide.
- Bordeaux Blanc — a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon; this is the château's most celebrated style, showing the aromatic precision and textural richness that Denis Dubourdieu championed throughout his career.
- Bordeaux Rosé — fresh, clean, and well-defined; a reliable expression of the appellation suited to warm-weather drinking and informal entertaining.
Why we have selected Château Reynon
At Halles Quercamps, we have listed Château Reynon for three reasons that matter to us as a family merchant. First, the intellectual credibility behind the wines: the Dubourdieu name carries genuine weight in Bordeaux, earned through decades of rigorous oenological work rather than reputation alone. Second, the quality of the whites — the Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon blend here is a benchmark for what the Bordeaux appellation can achieve outside the classified growths. Third, the consistency of the range: whether you open a red, a white, or a rosé, the same care and the same sense of place come through. We recommend these wines to confirmed Bordeaux enthusiasts looking beyond the Médoc, and to those building a cellar that includes reliable, characterful appellations Bordeaux at an honest level. At the table, the white pairs beautifully with grilled sea bass or a plateau de fruits de mer; the red suits a côte de bœuf or a well-aged comté.
