List of products by brand CHATEAU LAFONT MENAUT
Château Lafont Menaut extends across 25 hectares at Martillac, in the southern reaches of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, on Garonne gravels that have long shaped the finest wines of the Bordeaux left bank. HVE-certified and producing both red and white wines of consistent character, this château is guided by Philibert Perrin and the Perrin family.
A vineyard with deep historical roots
Long before Pessac-Léognan was established as an appellation in its own right — it was created in 1987, carved out of the broader Graves — the land at Martillac already carried considerable prestige. In the 18th century, these very soils formed part of the estates belonging to the Baron de Montesquieu, the philosopher and jurist whose name remains inseparable from the intellectual life of Bordeaux. That heritage lends Château Lafont Menaut a depth of context that few properties in the appellation can match.
Replanting and renewal under the Perrin family
When Philibert Perrin took over in 1990, he brought with him the rigorous standards of the Carbonnieux family, one of the most respected names in Pessac-Léognan. Rather than simply maintaining what existed, he embarked on an ambitious programme of replanting across the 25-hectare estate, restoring the vineyard to its full potential on soils of graves garonnaises, clay-gravel and sand. These varied soil types, spread across the characteristic croupes and shallow valleys of the appellation, allow the estate to work with both red and white varieties with equal conviction. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot anchor the red blends, with Cabernet Franc adding structure and aromatic lift; Sauvignon Blanc drives the whites, lending the freshness and tension that Pessac-Léognan blanc is known for.
HVE certification and responsible viticulture
Château Lafont Menaut holds Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification, France's most rigorous national framework for sustainable viticulture, covering biodiversity, water management, plant protection and fertilisation. For the Perrin family, this is not a marketing exercise but a practical expression of their long-term commitment to the land at Martillac — a commitment that sits comfortably alongside the château's historical identity.
The wines of Château Lafont Menaut
The château produces two colours across the Pessac-Léognan appellation, each reflecting the character of the Martillac terroir:
- Pessac-Léognan Rouge — built on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with the gravelly structure and dark-fruited depth typical of the southern Pessac-Léognan communes; suited to medium-term cellaring.
- Pessac-Léognan Blanc — driven by Sauvignon Blanc, with the mineral tension and citrus precision that distinguish the appellation's whites from those of the broader Graves; approachable young but rewarding with a few years in the cellar.
Why we have selected Château Lafont Menaut
At Halles Quercamps, we have listed Château Lafont Menaut for three clear reasons. First, the pedigree of the Perrin family: their connection to Carbonnieux — one of Pessac-Léognan's benchmark estates — brings a level of technical seriousness that shows in every vintage. Second, the terroir at Martillac: the graves garonnaises here produce wines of genuine definition, and the varied croupes give the château flexibility across both colours. Third, the HVE certification, which gives our customers confidence that the wines they are buying are produced with genuine environmental responsibility. We recommend these wines to confirmed Bordeaux enthusiasts looking beyond the classified growths, and to anyone building a cellar with an eye for quality at a sensible level. At the table, the rouge is a natural partner for lamb or duck; the blanc shines alongside grilled fish, shellfish, or a fine goat's cheese.
