A Pessac-Léognan with historic provenance and contemporary craft

  • This wine expresses considerable complexity and depth. The palate reveals well-integrated tannins that frame rather than dominate, creating a harmonious interplay between power and refinement characteristic of the appellation's finest expressions.
  • The property benefits from the viticultural expertise and winemaking philosophy of Château Carbonnieux, one of Pessac-Léognan's most respected estates. This collaboration ensures meticulous attention to terroir expression and élevage.
  • The 2020 vintage rewards patience. Whilst approachable now, the wine will develop considerably over the next five to eight years in a cool cellar, revealing additional layers of complexity and achieving its full potential.

Breeding
12 months in barrels, of which 30% new oak
On the eye
Deep ruby red with violet glints, suggesting youth and structure
On the nose
Aromas of cassis and dark cherry predominate, with notes of ripe plum and subtle spice developing as the wine opens. The bouquet is layered and inviting, revealing the wine's careful vinification.
In the mouth
The mid-palate shows excellent structure with tannins that are firm yet supple. There is genuine balance here: the wine possesses weight and presence without heaviness, with a finish of good length and definition.
M. Francois
This wine pairs admirably with beef preparations of substance—a braised beef cheek with root vegetables would showcase the wine's textural qualities and savoury undertones. The structured tannins complement the richness of the dish whilst the wine's acidity provides welcome freshness. Also consider it alongside game or mature cheeses.

CHATEAU LAFONT MENAUT

Covering 25 hectares at Martillac in the heart of Pessac-Léognan, Château Lafont Menaut is planted on the classic Garonne gravels, clay-gravel and sandy soils that define the great left-bank croupes. Since 1990, Philibert Perrin — of the Carbonnieux family — has led a thorough replanting programme on a vineyard whose roots reach back to the 18th-century estates of the Baron de Montesquieu. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the rigour of its HVE-certified viticulture, the precision of its Pessac-Léognan reds and whites, and the Perrin family's steady commitment to responsible growing on a genuinely historic terroir. A château that balances deep historical roots with exacting contemporary standards.
