A Graves estate with roots in sixteenth-century Bordeaux heritage

  • Château Lafont Menaut sits within the esteemed Pessac-Léognan appellation, where gravelly and clay soils produce powerful, structured reds alongside fresh, aromatic whites. This terroir expression defines the character of Left Bank Bordeaux.
  • Under the stewardship of the Perrin family, this modest domaine upholds the traditions and exacting standards that distinguish the finest wines of Bordeaux's Left Bank, blending heritage with contemporary winemaking practice.
  • The 2021 red is a classic Left Bank assemblage: Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure, tannin and dark fruit aromatics; Merlot contributes roundness and fruited softness. Together they express the mineral character of Graves.

Breeding
Aged in oak barrels for 12 to 18 months, imparting subtle woody notes without masking the fruit

Deep purple robe with garnet reflections
On the nose
Complex and intense bouquet: dark fruits (plum, blackcurrant), white pepper, leather and woody notes of vanilla and cedarwood develop with air
In the mouth
Fleshy and well-structured on the palate, with fine tannins and refreshing acidity. Blackcurrant and blackberry flavours are joined by cedar, tobacco and spice. The finish is long, marked by the mineral signature characteristic of Graves terroir.

CHATEAU LAFONT MENAUT

Covering 25 hectares at Martillac in the heart of Pessac-Léognan, Château Lafont Menaut is planted on the classic Garonne gravels, clay-gravel and sandy soils that define the great left-bank croupes. Since 1990, Philibert Perrin — of the Carbonnieux family — has led a thorough replanting programme on a vineyard whose roots reach back to the 18th-century estates of the Baron de Montesquieu. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the rigour of its HVE-certified viticulture, the precision of its Pessac-Léognan reds and whites, and the Perrin family's steady commitment to responsible growing on a genuinely historic terroir. A château that balances deep historical roots with exacting contemporary standards.
