List of products by brand CHATEAU HAUT-MARBUZET
Château Haut-Marbuzet stands as one of the most dependable addresses in the Saint-Estèphe appellation, guided since 1952 by the Duboscq family with a steadiness that is genuinely rare in the Médoc. We have listed this château at Halles Quercamps across several vintages, and our confidence in it has never wavered.
A gravel terroir rebuilt with patience
The château sits on the Marbuzet plateau and the slopes that descend towards the Gironde, in the commune of Saint-Estèphe in the Gironde département. The 75 hectares now under vine rest on Günzian gravels over a clay-limestone subsoil, with pockets of blue clay on certain parcels — a geological combination that gives the wines both structure and a certain suppleness unusual for the appellation. The exposure, facing the estuary, provides excellent drainage and a moderating influence on the microclimate.
A family story built plot by plot
The origins of Château Haut-Marbuzet trace back to 1770, but its modern chapter begins in 1952, when Hervé Duboscq acquired the property en viager — at that point a modest 7 hectares, all that remained after the fragmentation of the former Mac-Carthy estate. What followed was a patient, methodical reconstruction: parcel by parcel, vintage by vintage, the Duboscq family reassembled what had once been a far larger holding. By the time the estate reached its current 75 hectares, it had become one of the most coherent and well-regarded properties in Saint-Estèphe. That long-term vision was formally recognised in 2003, when Château Haut-Marbuzet was classified Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel — the highest tier of the Cru Bourgeois classification. The château is now managed by Bruno and Hugues Duboscq, the third generation of the family, who have maintained the rigorous, unhurried approach established by their grandfather.
Grape varieties and winemaking
The vineyard is planted with the classic Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The blend varies by vintage, always seeking to reflect the character of the year rather than to impose a fixed formula. The winemaking at Château Haut-Marbuzet has long been associated with a generous use of new oak, which contributes to the château's signature style: rich, rounded, and approachable in relative youth for a Saint-Estèphe, without sacrificing the firm tannic backbone the appellation is known for.
The wines of Château Haut-Marbuzet
The château produces exclusively red wines under the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Our selection at Halles Quercamps focuses on:

Why we have selected Château Haut-Marbuzet
We list Château Haut-Marbuzet because it represents precisely the kind of family-driven, terroir-honest winemaking that has always guided our selections at Halles Quercamps. Three reasons stand out. First, the consistency across vintages: in an appellation where results can vary considerably, the Duboscq family has maintained a remarkably even standard over decades. Second, the clarity of terroir expression: the Günzian gravels and blue clay subsoil speak clearly through the wines, giving them an identity that goes beyond the appellation label. Third, the Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel classification, earned in 2003, which provides an objective benchmark for quality that our customers can rely upon.
This château is particularly well suited to the confirmed Bordeaux enthusiast who appreciates a Saint-Estèphe with both immediate generosity and genuine ageing potential. At the table, we would suggest pairing with a rib of beef, a slow-roasted shoulder of lamb, or a well-aged hard cheese such as Comté.
