A first-rank terroir on the Cos hillside

Set on the plateau and slopes of the Cos hillside in Saint-Estèphe, Gironde, Château Cos-Labory commands 18 hectares of deep quaternary gravels overlying clay and a limestone bedrock. This layered geology is the foundation of the appellation's characteristic structure: the gravels warm rapidly, encouraging early ripening, while the clay retains moisture through dry summers and the limestone subsoil lends a mineral tension that runs through every vintage. The south-facing exposure of the plateau and coteaux ensures consistent sunlight accumulation, a decisive advantage in a commune whose wines are known for their firm tannins and long ageing potential.

Over two centuries of history, a new beginning in 2023

The château was founded in 1789, and the Audoy family held the property from 1922 until 2023 — a century of stewardship that maintained its place among the Grands Crus Classés of the Médoc. In 2023, Michel Reybier acquired Château Cos-Labory, a move of considerable historical significance: Reybier already owns the neighbouring Cos d'Estournel, and this acquisition effectively reunites the grand historic vineyard of Cos as it existed at the time of the 1855 classification. It is a rare instance of a classified estate being restored to its original boundaries, and it signals a clear ambition for the future of this appellation.

Viticulture and certifications

The estate holds HVE certification (Haute Valeur Environnementale), reflecting a commitment to environmentally responsible viticulture across its 18 hectares. The grape varieties planted — Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc — are the classic Médoc triumvirate, with Cabernet Sauvignon providing the structural backbone that defines Saint-Estèphe at its finest.
