A Fifth Growth of classical elegance and proven longevity

  • Family-owned since 1930, Cos-Labory represents continuity and consistency across generations. The estate has maintained its reputation as one of the most reliable Fifth Growths in the Médoc, combining traditional winemaking with careful stewardship of its terroir.
  • This Saint-Estèphe exemplifies the appellation's characteristic power and refinement. The wine balances robust structure with graceful expression, displaying the mineral depth and Cabernet-driven character that distinguish the finest wines of the Left Bank.
  • The wine's substantial tannin framework provides excellent cellaring potential. Well-constituted and built for longevity, it will develop further complexity over the coming decade, rewarding those with patience and a proper cellar.

Breeding
14 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with a high proportion of new wood (often 100%)
On the eye
Deep garnet robe with subtle brick-coloured rim, suggesting measured maturity and classical breeding.
On the nose
Open and expressive bouquet led by cassis and blackberry, with secondary notes of red plum. Subtle undertones of forest floor, tobacco leaf and cedar—the signature of fine Cabernet Sauvignon from Saint-Estèphe.
In the mouth
Crisp attack followed by immediate pleasure and persistent freshness. Ripe dark fruits and liquorice notes carry through to a medium-to-long finish of notable finesse. The wine's structure remains elegant throughout.
M. Francois
Cos-Labory is widely regarded as offering exceptional value among the classified growths of Bordeaux. A gentleman's wine—less flamboyant than its celebrated neighbour Cos d'Estournel, yet possessed of exemplary nobility and integrity. Classic Saint-Estèphe: robust, profound and built to endure. Pairs beautifully with roasted game birds or lamb.

CHATEAU COS-LABORY

Classified as a 5th Grand Cru in 1855, Château Cos-Labory covers 18 hectares of deep quaternary gravels and clays on the celebrated Cos hillside in Saint-Estèphe, Gironde. Founded in 1789 and held by the Audoy family from 1922 to 2023, the château entered a new chapter when Michel Reybier acquired it, reuniting the historic Cos vineyard as it stood at the time of the imperial classification. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the integrity of its terroir, the rigour of its HVE-certified viticulture, and the classic Bordeaux character of its Cabernet Sauvignon-led reds. A classified growth to follow closely as it embarks on this new era.
