List of products by brand DOMAINE DE BERGUEROLLES

Situated at Saint-Ambroix in the Gard, Domaine de Berguerolles covers 36 certified organic hectares within the Languedoc appellation, its enclosed plots defined by century-old stone walls above the meanders of the Cèze. Founded in 1967 by Robert Saint-Étienne, who rebuilt the property from nothing, the estate has been led since 2010 by Mathieu Manifacier — third generation and one of the early pioneers of natural and orange wines in the IGP Cévennes. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the rigour of its organic commitment, the remarkable breadth of its 22 grape varieties, and the character of a terroir shaped by river-carved soils and a sheltered microclimate. A reference address for those seeking an authentic, living Languedoc.

Domaine de Berguerolles embodies a demanding vision of the Languedoc: enclosed plots bounded by century-old stone walls, soils shaped by the meanders of the Cèze, and three generations devoted to a singular terroir at Saint-Ambroix, in the Gard.

A property rebuilt from scratch, passed on with conviction

The story begins in 1967, when Robert Saint-Étienne acquired a neglected property and rebuilt it entirely. Over the following decades, he restored the land, replanted the vines, and laid the foundations of one of the Languedoc's more quietly compelling estates. In 1991, the estate passed to his daughter and son-in-law. Then, in 2010, Mathieu Manifacier took the helm as the third generation — bringing a clear ambition: to push the estate towards natural viticulture and a more expressive, terroir-driven style.

A terroir defined by stone walls and river-carved soils

The 36 hectares are composed of clos — enclosed parcels delimited by old stone walls — set within the meanders of the Cèze. This creates a naturally sheltered microclimate, with soils shifting from alluvial deposits to stony terraces and clay-limestone combinations. Yields average around 50 hl/ha across a gradient of 20 to 90 hl/ha depending on the parcel and vintage.

Certified organic, with 22 grape varieties in the ground

The entire estate is certified Agriculture Biologique. What sets Domaine de Berguerolles apart is the diversity of its vine stock: 22 grape varieties, including Syrah, Serine, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Marselan, alongside rarer varieties. Mathieu Manifacier is recognised as one of the pioneers of natural and orange wines in the IGP Cévennes — a distinction earned through consistent, thoughtful work.

The wines: red, white, and rosé across the Languedoc appellation

  • Reds (Languedoc AOC / IGP Cévennes): Built on Syrah, Grenache, and Cabernet Sauvignon, showing the warmth and structure of the southern Gard with a freshness preserved by the sheltered microclimate.
  • Whites (Languedoc AOC / IGP Cévennes): Drawn from a range of varieties including rarer plantings; the orange wine style represents Mathieu Manifacier's most personal expression.
  • Rosés (Languedoc AOC / IGP Cévennes): Direct and food-friendly, reflecting the Mediterranean setting without the pale, neutral register now so widespread in the south.

Why we have selected Domaine de Berguerolles

We have listed Domaine de Berguerolles because it represents something increasingly rare: a genuine family estate with a coherent identity, a traceable history from 1967, and a winemaker — Mathieu Manifacier — who makes meaningful choices. The organic certification is serious and longstanding. The 22 varieties speak to a depth of terroir engagement few estates in the region can match. The reds pair well with slow-cooked lamb, wild boar, and aged sheep's cheeses; the whites and orange wines suit charcuterie, grilled fish, or a well-aged Comté.
