A mas rooted in Languedoc history

The mas at the heart of Domaine Terres d'Hachene is no recent creation. Written records place it as far back as the 15th century, and the site itself carries a far older memory: it was once a Roman oppidum, a fortified settlement whose stones have witnessed centuries of change. By the 19th century the property had been converted into a magnanerie — a silkworm farm — a reminder of the economic life that once shaped this corner of the Gard. Lionel Frizon took on this layered inheritance and chose to honour it through careful, respectful viticulture rather than industrial ambition.

Fourteen hectares, twenty parcels, one coherent vision

The estate covers 14 hectares spread across roughly twenty distinct parcels around the commune of Saint-Nazaire-des-Gardies. What makes this holding particularly interesting is its soil diversity: limestone and clay-limestone profiles alternate across slopes with varying exposures, including a notable east-facing aspect. This mosaic of terroirs gives Lionel Frizon the raw material to work with real precision, blending or vinifying separately according to the character of each plot. The principal varieties — Grenache noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre — are complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, a range that reflects the broad palette available within the AOC Languedoc.

Certified organic from the 2017 vintage

Domaine Terres d'Hachene obtained its organic agriculture certification with effect from the 2017 vintage — a commitment that goes well beyond a marketing label. The wine range

Across its AOC Languedoc range, the estate produces three colours, each expressing the terroir of Saint-Nazaire-des-Gardies in its own register:

Red wines: built around Grenache noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre, with depth, garrigue-inflected spice and the structure that comes from well-managed limestone soils.
White wines: fresh and mineral, reflecting the cooler aspects of the estate's varied exposures.
