Yet it was Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who took charge in the twentieth century, who truly shaped the château's modern identity — pursuing with tireless resolve the promotion that would finally be granted in 1973. That year, the French authorities amended the 1855 Classification for the first and only time, elevating Mouton-Rothschild to 1er Grand Cru Classé. Today the estate is managed by Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, under the stewardship of Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, Camille Sereys de Rothschild, and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, who assumed leadership in 2014.
