Breeding
16 to 18 months: 40% new oak barrels, 40% one-year-old barrels, and 20% in terracotta and stoneware amphorae
On the eye
Deep inky garnet with purple reflections; a colour of concentration and youth.
On the nose
Pristine cassis and wild blackberry, with blueberry undertones. The mineral signature is pronounced: graphite and chalk notes frame the fruit with elegant austerity.
In the mouth
Chiselled and energetic. Tannins are dense yet remarkably fine-grained, almost chalky in texture. A vibrant wine with saline tension and persistent finish; notes of dark berries and liquorice linger.
This is a Pauillac that honours its appellation's historical power whilst delivering unusual purity of fruit and mineral precision. The fine tannin structure suggests a wine that will age gracefully. I would pair it with game birds, herb-crusted lamb, or dishes with subtle spice—it has the structure to complement rather than overwhelm.

CHATEAU HAUT-BAGES LIBERAL
Set on the Bages plateau in Pauillac, Château Haut-Bages Liberal covers 30 hectares of deep Garonne gravels, classified as a 5th Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Taken over in 1983 by the Villars-Merlaut family and now led by Claire Villars-Lurton — named Winemaker of the Year 2024 by the RVF — the château has pursued organic certification since 2019 and full Demeter biodynamic status since 2021, a pioneering step among the Médoc's classified growths. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the rigour of that conversion, the precision of its Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blends, and the rare coherence between terroir ambition and environmental commitment. A Pauillac of real character, firmly rooted in its appellation.
