Breeding
18 to 20 months in new French oak barrels and one-year-old oak. This extended élevage allows the powerful tannins of Tannat to be refined.
On the eye
Brilliant garnet robe with good depth and clarity.
On the nose
Expressive bouquet of dark berries and black plum, followed by subtle spice and white pepper notes that add complexity and lift.
In the mouth
Fresh and juicy on the palate with a silky tannin structure. Good mid-palate weight balanced by bright acidity and a clean, persistent finish.
I have long believed Gascogne capable of producing reds of genuine international class, and this wine proves the point. It rivals Madiran and Cahors in structure and depth, yet carries an additional elegance and freshness from the region's calcaire soils. Excellent with roasted lamb, game birds such as pheasant, or traditional preparations like lièvre à la royale. A wine of real character and ageing potential.

Domaine Chiroulet is a family wine estate in the Gers, Côtes de Gascogne (South-West France). Founded by the Fezas family. Around 60 hectares on clay-limestone soils. Grapes: Colombard, Sauvignon Blanc, Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng (whites), Tannat, Merlot (reds). Dry whites, sweet whites and sparkling wines. Available at Les Halles de Quercamps.
