In the mouth
Blackcurrant and cassis on the palate, supported by fine tannins and a whisper of tonka bean spice. Good length, with a dry, mineral finish that reflects the terroir.
On the nose
Aromas of blackcurrant and wild dark berries, with subtle herbaceous notes characteristic of the appellation. The bouquet opens gradually, revealing mineral undertones.
On the eye
Deep garnet, with a youthful rim suggesting good structure and ageing potential.
Breeding
12 to 14 months, 60% in new oak barrels, 40% in one-year-old oak barrels
M. Francois
I regard Cap de Faugères as a well-made Castillon that rewards patience. It pairs beautifully with charcuterie and aged cheeses, but equally at home with roasted game or beef. The wine is drinking well now, though it will continue to develop gracefully over the next five to eight years. A sound choice for those exploring the right bank beyond the famous names.
