A neighbour to the great châteaux of Saint-Émilion

  • A wine of considerable concentration and power, this 2016 Castillon demonstrates the quality achievable in this increasingly respected appellation, situated just kilometres from the celebrated estates of the right bank.
  • The three classic Bordeaux varieties—Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon—are in harmonious balance, each contributing its character to a wine of genuine structure and depth.
  • Purchased directly from the producer, Clos Lunelles offers the quality of a fine Bordeaux without the premium typically associated with more celebrated appellations.

In the mouth
Powerful and imposing on the palate. The tannins are firm and well-integrated, the acidity providing structure. A wine that demands food and will reward patience.
On the nose
Expressive bouquet of dark fruits—blackcurrant and cherry—with prominent notes of new oak and subtle spice. The aromatics suggest a wine of substance and careful élevage.
On the eye
Dense, intense purple. A wine of evident concentration and substance.
Breeding
In new oak barrels for 18 to 24 months
M. Francois
Excellent with grilled red meats—beef, duck, pigeon—where its structure and dark fruit character complement the char and richness of the cooking. Also suited to robust fish dishes with red wine sauces, particularly matelote. Decant thirty minutes before service.

CLOS LUNELLES

Perched at the highest point of the Côtes de Castillon plateau in Sainte-Colombe, Gironde, Clos Lunelles covers 8.5 hectares of clay-limestone soils over astéries limestone, with yields held to just 20 hl/ha. The former Château Lapeyronie was acquired in 2001 by Gérard Perse of Vignobles Perse, renamed Clos Les Lunelles and later Clos Lunelles in 2010. Robert Parker awarded 93/100 on the very first vintage — a statement of intent that has never been contradicted. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the rigour of its viticulture, the precision of its Merlot and Cabernet Franc blends, and the consistency it delivers across every vintage. A red Castillon that stands comfortably alongside the great names of Bordeaux.
