The expression of an exceptional terroir, captured in a glass

  • The Altenbourg lieu-dit sits between 220 and 300 metres altitude on the gentle slopes of Kientzheim, positioned just below the Grand Cru Furstentum boundary. This elevation and aspect are fundamental to the wine's character.
  • The deep, argilo-calcareous soils of this hillside are recognised both geologically and through generations of cultivation as ideally suited to Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer. Terroir and tradition converge here.
  • This wine exemplifies Domaine Weinbach's commitment to biodynamic viticulture and profound respect for the natural environment—principles that shape every vintage.

In the mouth
Ample and generous on the palate with good weight, yet animated by crisp acidity that brings freshness to the ripe fruit. Excellent concentration and impressive length, finishing with remarkable balance and a clean, mineral edge.
On the nose
Intense aromas of ripe quince and stewed pear, evolving towards hazelnut and beeswax. The bouquet speaks of maturity and complexity without heaviness.
On the eye
Clear, pale golden yellow with subtle luminosity
Breeding
In aged oak vats
M. Francois
I recommend this wine alongside foie gras, creamed veal escalopes, or poultry with morels. It pairs beautifully with hard cheeses—Comté, Beaufort, Gruyère—and performs admirably with Asian cuisine. A wine of genuine substance and breeding.
