The essence of a singular terroir, captured in each glass

  • The Altenbourg lieu-dit lies between 220 and 300 metres altitude on the gentle slopes of Kientzheim, positioned just below the Grand Cru Furstentum boundary. This positioning confers distinctive mineral character and complexity to the wines produced here.
  • The deep, clay-limestone soils of this hillside are recognised both geologically and through generations of empirical observation as exceptionally well-suited to Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer. These conditions yield wines of notable concentration and finesse.
  • A hallmark expression of Domaine Weinbach's commitment to biodynamic viticulture and profound respect for the natural environment. This philosophy is evident in the wine's balance and purity of character.

Breeding
In aged oak vats
On the eye
Clear, pale golden yellow with subtle luminosity
On the nose
Intense aromas of overripe fruit—quince and stewed pear—evolving towards hazelnut and beeswax, with underlying mineral notes characteristic of the terroir
In the mouth
Ample and textured with good weight, yet maintained by lively acidity that brings freshness to the ripe fruit. Excellent concentration and impressive length, with a balanced finish of surprising elegance and restraint
M. Francois
Particularly suited to foie gras, creamed veal escalopes, poached chicken with morels, and Chinese cuisine. Also pairs admirably with aged hard cheeses—Comté, Beaufort, Gruyère—and develops well alongside mature Cheddar. Drink now through 2028.
