Noble rot and terroir in perfect harmony

  • Positioned at the heart of the Sauternes appellation, the vineyard benefits from morning mists rising from the Garonne and Ciron rivers. These conditions favour the development of botrytis cinerea—noble rot—which concentrates sugars in the grapes and creates the foundation for great liquoreux wines.
  • Semillon provides richness and unctuousness whilst Sauvignon Blanc contributes freshness and acidity, creating an elegant equilibrium. The result is a Sauternes of considerable depth yet with a refined, lively character that avoids cloying heaviness.
  • Approachable in youth for its vibrant fruit character, this wine possesses genuine ageing potential. Over decades in bottle, it will develop deeper, more complex aromas of honey, dried fruits, saffron and candied citrus peel.

Breeding
Aged in oak barrels for 18 to 24 months, imparting additional vanilla and spice aromas whilst preserving the wine's fruit freshness.
On the eye
Deep golden robe with brilliant, luminous reflections
On the nose
Expressive and layered bouquet: exotic fruits, preserved apricot, honeycomb, beeswax and delicate floral notes combine with subtle spice
In the mouth
Silken texture with considerable richness. Candied fruits—apricot and peach—meld with honey, marmalade and white florals, underpinned by almond notes and gentle spice. The finish is long and elegant, with sufficient acidity to balance the natural sweetness
M. Francois
A Sauternes of considerable finesse. The wine pairs beautifully with desserts, blue cheeses such as Roquefort, and foie gras. Its complex fruit character, silken mouthfeel and interplay between sweetness and freshness make it essential for serious collectors. Drink now for immediate pleasure or cellar for several decades as it develops greater complexity and depth.

CHATEAU HAUT-BERGERON

At Preignac, in the heart of the Sauternes appellation, Château Haut-Bergeron covers 37 hectares of clay-gravel and clay-limestone soils, farmed organically. Founded in 1756 and in the Lamothe family since 1820, this is a château shaped by nine generations of dedication to the great sweet wines of Bordeaux — a commitment reflected in 118 medals, 68 of them gold, awarded since 1964. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the consistency of its quality over time, the integrity of its organic approach, and the typicity of its Sauternes, which balance concentration with genuine freshness. A dependable reference for lovers of fine Bordeaux liquoreux.
