238 metres: where Albariño finds its true expression in southern France

  • Eight generations of family vignerons have cultivated this estate with unwavering commitment to quality and terroir-driven winemaking in the Languedoc region.
  • Albariño, traditionally rooted in Spain's Atlantic coast, thrives here at altitude. Laurent Miquel demonstrates that elevation transforms this variety into something altogether distinctive and compelling.
  • A wine of considerable refinement, equally at home accompanying fine seafood preparations or more elaborate gastronomic dishes where its precision and minerality enhance the table.

Product features : Laurent Miquel Pech Gentille Cote 238 2022 — IGP Pays d'Oc

Breeding
In concrete or stainless steel vats on fine lees, with no barrel ageing, to preserve the varietal character without oak influence.
On the eye
Intense golden-yellow hue with bright, limpid clarity.
On the nose
White stone fruits—white peach and pear—mingle with citrus notes of grapefruit and green lemon, creating an aromatic profile of considerable freshness and definition.
In the mouth
Linear and precise on the palate, with restrained richness and a driving acidity that provides structure and direction. The wine's verticality is its defining characteristic, offering clean definition and remarkable drinkability.
M. Francois
Laurent Miquel has made a compelling case for Albariño in southern France. Cote 238 marries the generosity of Languedoc's sun with the rigour and salinity of Atlantic-influenced wines. It is precise, clean, and drinks with deceptive ease. An original alternative to the predictable Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. Best enjoyed at table's edge with oysters or fine seafood preparations.

DOMAINE LAURENT MIQUEL

Based in Cessenon-sur-Orb in the Hérault, Domaine Laurent Miquel farms 200 hectares under certified organic agriculture across the Languedoc appellation. A winemaking family since 1791, Laurent — a trained engineer — took over in 1996 as the eighth generation and made history as the first producer to grow Albariño in France. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the coherence of its viticultural project, the diversity of its terroirs — limestone at Cazal Viel, clay-limestone at Auzines — and the precision of its reds, whites, and rosés. A benchmark address for anyone wishing to explore the full depth of the Languedoc.
