A defining voice of Bordeaux's garage wine movement

  • Classified Premier Grand Cru Classé B in 2012, Chateau Valandraud represents the modern evolution of Saint-Émilion. This wine demonstrates the ambition and precision that characterise the finest contemporary Bordeaux producers.
  • The wine displays a solid tannin structure with considerable concentration. These elements provide the framework for a wine of substance and depth, built to develop gracefully over decades rather than reveal itself immediately.
  • Well-constituted for extended cellaring, this vintage will continue to evolve and integrate over the coming years. Patient collectors will find the wine rewards time in bottle with increasing complexity and refinement.

In the mouth
Rich and profound, with layers of flavour that unfold gradually. The palate is complex, balancing fruit intensity with structural elements. The finish is sustained, leaving an impression of elegance and breeding.
On the nose
The bouquet reveals ripe dark fruits alongside subtle spice and liquorice notes. Oak ageing contributes toasted and vanilla nuances, integrated rather than dominant, adding textural interest without masking the wine's essential character.
On the eye
Deep garnet, with the density of colour suggesting good concentration and maturity potential.
Breeding
In barrels (predominantly new oak) for approximately 20 months
M. Francois
This wine demonstrates its versatility with roasted game birds such as quail, where its structure and spice complement the delicate meat admirably. The tannins are sufficiently refined to avoid overwhelming lighter preparations, whilst the wine's depth suits richer accompaniments and seasonal vegetables prepared with care.

CHATEAU VALANDRAUD

Situated in Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse in the Gironde, Château Valandraud is a Premier Grand Cru Classé B of the Saint-Émilion appellation, farmed across 10 hectares of clay-limestone soils by Thunevin SAS. Founded in 1989 by Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud, this château wrote one of the most remarkable chapters in modern Bordeaux: starting from just 0.6 hectares vinified in a garage in 1991, it earned Premier Grand Cru Classé B status in the 2012 classification. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the rigour of its HVE-certified viticulture, the precision of its Merlot-led blends, and the extraordinary trajectory of a producer that genuinely redefined what Saint-Émilion could be. A Bordeaux reference we are proud to list.
