The Lafite of Sauternes: elegance and refinement

  • A benchmark expression of Sauternes, classified as Premier Grand Cru in 1855. Sigalas-Rabaud distinguishes itself through meticulous pursuit of balance and finesse rather than sheer power, making it a wine of considerable gastronomic versatility.
  • Dominated by Sémillon, the wine displays remarkable aromatic purity and complexity. The interplay between honeyed richness and vibrant acidity creates a wine that neither cloys nor fatigues the palate, even across extended cellaring.
  • This vintage rewards patience. Lay down your bottle for several years to witness the gradual evolution from pale gold to deeper hues, as the wine's structure and secondary flavours develop with graceful maturity.

Breeding
18 months in French oak barrels
On the eye
Pale gold in youth, deepening to richer golden tones with age
On the nose
Expressive and remarkably pure. Sémillon-driven aromatics reveal white flowers, citrus zest, and honeyed stone fruit, with subtle botrytis undertones that emerge with time
In the mouth
Unctuous and richly textured, yet immediately balanced by pronounced acidity. The wine flows with elegance, never heavy, with a persistent finish that speaks of terroir and restraint
M. Francois
Sigalas-Rabaud is often called the Lafite of Sauternes for its unwavering pursuit of absolute elegance. Not the most powerful or syrupy of the classified growths, but arguably among the most refined. Its defining strength lies in the sugar-acidity equilibrium, creating a gastronomic wine capable of ageing gracefully for decades. Pair boldly with Roquefort for a revelation.
