Xavier Greuzard's expression of pure terroir

  • A wine of genuine regional character. This Macon-la-Roche-Vineuse embodies the convivial spirit of southern Burgundy, offering unpretentious elegance and approachability that defines the appellation.
  • The vineyard comprises vines with an average age of thirty years, currently undergoing conversion to organic viticulture. This maturity of plant material contributes depth and complexity to the wine.
  • This wine represents the Chardonnay grape in its purest expression on this specific terroir. The mineral character and citrus notes reflect the limestone-rich soils and continental climate of la Roche Vineuse.

In the mouth
Dry and mineral on the palate, with good acidity and structure. Pine and quince notes emerge on the finish, providing complexity and length. The wine shows excellent balance and definition.
On the nose
Aromatic profile centred on citrus fruit: grapefruit and mandarin are prominent, with underlying white stone fruit character and subtle floral notes
On the eye
Pale golden yellow, bright and clear
Breeding
Fermentation for 10 to 20 days under temperature control. The wine is aged on lees until bottling.
M. Francois
A versatile table wine suited to aperitif service or paired with poultry, risotto, freshwater fish, escargots, and goat's cheese. The mineral backbone and moderate alcohol make it particularly food-friendly. Serve lightly chilled at 10-12°C.

CHÂTEAU DE LA GREFFIÈRE

Established on the rolling hillsides of La Roche-Vineuse in Saône-et-Loire, Château de la Greffière farms 65 hectares of certified organic vines across clay-limestone and clay-siliceous soils in the Mâconnais. A viticultural estate since 1585, it has been in the Greuzard family since 1924; in 2012, Xavier Greuzard took the helm and nearly doubled the vineyard from 35 to 65 hectares, sharpening a clear commitment to quality. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the rigour of its organic viticulture, the breadth of its grape varieties — Chardonnay, Aligoté, Pinot Noir, Gamay — and the consistency of its white, red, and sparkling wines across the Mâcon appellation. A historic estate with its feet firmly in the Mâconnais, and its eyes fixed on precision winemaking.
