Noble rot and riverside terroir in the heart of Sauternes

  • Positioned within the Sauternes appellation, Chateau Haut-Bergeron benefits from morning mists rising from the Garonne and Ciron rivers. These conditions favour botrytis cinerea—noble rot—which concentrates sugars within the grapes, creating the foundation for fine liquoreux wines.
  • Semillon provides the wine's richness and unctuous character, whilst Sauvignon Blanc contributes freshness and acidity, balancing the natural sweetness. This harmonious blend yields a Sauternes that is both substantial and refined, with notable liveliness.
  • Approachable young for its fruited brightness, this wine possesses considerable ageing potential. Over decades, it will develop increasingly complex aromas of honey, dried fruits, and saffron, deepening in complexity and refinement.

A Sauternes of considerable finesse. Chateau Haut-Bergeron pairs beautifully with desserts, blue cheeses such as Roquefort, and foie gras. Its complex fruit-preserve aromas, silken texture, and equilibrium between sweetness and freshness make it essential for serious Sauternes enthusiasts. Drink young for immediate appeal or cellar for decades to develop greater depth and aromatic complexity.

CHATEAU HAUT-BERGERON

At Preignac, in the heart of the Sauternes appellation, Château Haut-Bergeron covers 37 hectares of clay-gravel and clay-limestone soils, farmed organically. Founded in 1756 and in the Lamothe family since 1820, this is a château shaped by nine generations of dedication to the great sweet wines of Bordeaux — a commitment reflected in 118 medals, 68 of them gold, awarded since 1964. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the consistency of its quality over time, the integrity of its organic approach, and the typicity of its Sauternes, which balance concentration with genuine freshness. A dependable reference for lovers of fine Bordeaux liquoreux.
