Sémillon, Sauvignon blanc

A wine of considerable ageing potential and refined structure

  • Sémillon forms the foundation of this Sauternes, contributing richness and structural backbone. The variety's natural affinity with botrytis cinerea ensures the concentration and complexity that define the appellation's finest expressions.
  • Sauvignon Blanc introduces brightness and aromatic definition—citrus and tropical fruit notes that provide essential counterpoint to the wine's honeyed richness, maintaining freshness throughout the palate.
  • Château Raymond-Lafon occupies a position of considerable prestige within Sauternes, situated as a near neighbour to Château d'Yquem. This proximity reflects shared terroir advantages and the estate's commitment to the highest standards of production.

Product features : Chateau Raymond-Lafon 2015 — Sauternes

Breeding
Three years in oak barrels (100% new or according to vintage selection, typically a very high proportion of new wood for this estate)
On the eye
Deep golden yellow with brilliant clarity. Over time, the colour will evolve towards deeper amber and copper tones.
On the nose
Honeyed aromatics predominate, accompanied by dried apricot, candied lemon, and tropical fruit. Subtle spice and vanilla notes emerge with aeration, adding complexity and depth to the bouquet.
In the mouth
Balanced acidity provides elegant counterpoint to the natural sweetness. Honey, roasted citrus, and gingerbread flavours develop across the palate, with a sustained, refined finish.
M. Francois
The 2015 vintage represents Raymond-Lafon at its finest—often termed a 'petit Yquem' for its power and structure. The year offered ideal climatic conditions, yielding exceptionally pure botrytis development. This is haute couture winemaking: a wine built for the cellar, with decades of evolution ahead.
