Noble rot and terroir excellence from the heart of Sauternes

  • Positioned in the heart of the Sauternes appellation, Chateau Haut-Bergeron benefits from the morning mists of the Garonne and Ciron valleys. These conditions foster botrytis cinerea—noble rot—which concentrates grape sugars and creates the foundation for great sweet wines.
  • Semillon provides the wine's richness and silken texture, whilst Sauvignon Blanc contributes freshness and acidity. This balance between natural sweetness and vibrant acidity defines the wine's character: opulent yet refined, with genuine complexity.
  • Drink young to appreciate its bright, fruited character, or cellar for decades. With time, the wine develops deeper aromas of honey, dried fruits and saffron, revealing layers of complexity that reward patient collectors.

Product features : Chateau Haut-Bergeron 2016 — Sauternes

In the mouth
Silken and voluptuous on the palate. Preserved fruits—apricot and peach—meld with honey, marmalade and white flowers, underpinned by gentle spice and almond notes. The finish is long and elegant, with sufficient acidity to balance the natural sweetness.
On the nose
Expressive and layered bouquet: candied apricot, acacia honey, beeswax and white florals, with subtle exotic fruit notes. The aromatics unfold gradually, revealing further complexity with aeration.
On the eye
Deep golden robe with brilliant, luminous highlights
Breeding
Aged in oak barrels for 18 to 24 months, imparting additional vanilla and spice aromas whilst preserving the wine's fruit freshness
M. Francois
A Sauternes of genuine finesse. Its honeyed complexity, silken texture and equilibrium between richness and freshness make it an exemplary partner to blue cheese, foie gras and classical desserts. Approachable now for its fruited brightness, yet capable of developing profound aromatic depth over several decades in the cellar.

CHATEAU HAUT-BERGERON

At Preignac, in the heart of the Sauternes appellation, Château Haut-Bergeron covers 37 hectares of clay-gravel and clay-limestone soils, farmed organically. Founded in 1756 and in the Lamothe family since 1820, this is a château shaped by nine generations of dedication to the great sweet wines of Bordeaux — a commitment reflected in 118 medals, 68 of them gold, awarded since 1964. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the consistency of its quality over time, the integrity of its organic approach, and the typicity of its Sauternes, which balance concentration with genuine freshness. A dependable reference for lovers of fine Bordeaux liquoreux.
