One of the world's most revered Saint-Emilion estates

  • 1er Grand Cru Classé A status reflects decades of consistent excellence. Cheval Blanc stands apart through its pursuit of purity and complexity rather than sheer power, achieving a rare balance between the structure of a great Médoc and the voluptuousness of a Libournais.
  • The 2016 vintage displays remarkable freshness and density with elegant proportions. This wine demonstrates the hallmark restraint and refinement that define the appellation's finest expressions, rewarding both immediate appreciation and patient cellaring.
  • Complex aromatics reveal the distinctive signature of Cabernet Franc—violet and peony notes interweave with red and dark fruits. The palate unfolds with silken texture, mineral precision, and a lingering finish of fresh red fruit that speaks to terroir and meticulous winemaking.

Breeding
16 to 18 months in 100% new oak barrels
On the eye
Intense ruby with violet reflections in youth, evolving towards deep, lustrous garnet that signals considerable phenolic concentration.
On the nose
The bouquet is notably complex, layering red and dark fruit aromas with the distinctive Cabernet Franc signature: violet and peony notes that add aromatic refinement and elegance to the wine's overall character.
In the mouth
Fine attack leads to a rich, dense palate with silken texture. The finish is marked by fresh red fruit on the retro-olfaction and a mineral elegance that defines the wine's structure and length.
M. Francois
Cheval Blanc's defining characteristic is its timelessness. Unlike some neighbouring estates that pursue opulence, this wine seeks purity—achieving the complexity of a great Médoc whilst retaining the voluptuousness of a Libournais. Remarkably, its market value remains extraordinarily stable, a testament to its consistency and near-perfect regularity across even challenging vintages.
