Based in Monein at the heart of the Jurançon appellation, Domaine Bellegarde farms 14 hectares of certified organic vines on south-facing slopes of argilo-limoneux soils, poudingues and limestone pebbles. Pascal Labasse, trained at Château la Tour Blanche in Sauternes, took over the estate in 1986, dedicating himself to the great Pyrenean varieties — Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng — while replanting the long-forgotten local grape Camaralet. His son Maxime joined him in 2019, reinforcing a rigorous, long-term approach. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the precision of its whites, its authentic rootedness in the AOC Jurançon, and its consistent commitment to organic viticulture. A dependable reference from the Sud-Ouest.

Domaine Bellegarde is one of the most committed estates in the Jurançon appellation — producing whites of real character from Pyrenean varieties grown organically on the hillsides of Monein, Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

A family estate rooted in Monein since 1986

Pascal Labasse settled in Monein in 1986 to found Domaine Bellegarde. Trained at Château la Tour Blanche in Sauternes, he brought rigorous winemaking discipline to the Pyrenean foothills, prioritising terroir expression over volume. In 2019, his son Maxime Labasse joined the estate, ensuring continuity without altering its identity: precise, terroir-driven whites from one of the Sud-Ouest's most individual appellations.

Terroir and viticulture: organic farming on exceptional soils

The estate covers 14 hectares on characteristic Jurançon soils: argilo-limoneux (clay-silt), poudingues de Jurançon and limestone pebbles. Full south-facing exposure above Monein ensures slow, even ripening and aromatic concentration. Domaine Bellegarde holds both organic (Agriculture Biologique) and HVE certification, reflecting a long-standing commitment to sustainable viticulture — no synthetic herbicides or pesticides, with practices that preserve soil life and vineyard balance.

Camaralet: reviving a forgotten Pyrenean variety

A defining aspect of the estate is its replanting of Camaralet, a historic Jurançon variety that had all but disappeared. Pascal Labasse's commitment to this rare grape reflects a core belief: that a great appellation's identity is inseparable from its indigenous varieties. Alongside Camaralet, the estate cultivates Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng — richness and tension from the former, freshness and aromatic generosity from the latter.

The wines: Jurançon whites across the full range

Domaine Bellegarde produces exclusively white wines under the Jurançon AOC:

  • Jurançon Sec — dry whites from Gros Manseng, with crisp acidity, citrus, stone fruit and mineral freshness.
  • Jurançon (moelleux) — sweet whites from late-harvested Petit Manseng, concentrated by passerillage, honeyed yet balanced by the variety's natural acidity.
  • Jurançon with Camaralet — cuvées incorporating the replanted Camaralet, a rare chance to taste a variety that nearly vanished from the appellation.

Why we have selected Domaine Bellegarde

At Halles Quercamps, we selected Domaine Bellegarde for its clear sense of place, coherent viticulture and wines that reward attention. The dual organic and HVE certification is not a marketing exercise — it reflects how the Labasse family have always worked. The replanting of Camaralet signals genuine conviction. We recommend these wines to enthusiasts who appreciate the Sud-Ouest beyond Bordeaux: the tension and complexity of great Pyrenean whites, dry or moelleux, pairing beautifully with foie gras, Ossau-Iraty, South-West cuisine, grilled fish or a plateau de fruits de mer.
