List of products by brand LES HERITIERS DU COMTE LAFON

Based in Milly-Lamartine, Saône-et-Loire, Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon Mâconnais farms 26 hectares across the Mâcon appellation, on a mosaic of clay-limestone, schist and granite soils. The estate was founded in 1999 by Dominique Lafon — the first Côte d'Or grower to commit seriously to the Mâconnais — and since 2022 has been led by the next generation, Léa and Pierre Lafon, working to organic and biodynamic principles. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the rigour of its parcel-by-parcel approach, the precision of its Chardonnays, and the consistency of a commitment that has been in place from the very beginning. A benchmark address for the contemporary Mâconnais.

Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon Mâconnais represents the ambitions of one of the Côte d'Or's most celebrated names, transplanted into the Mâconnais: terroir-driven Chardonnays, farmed biodynamically on the hillside slopes of Milly-Lamartine.

A domain built on a conviction about terroir

In 1999, Dominique Lafon, proprietor of the renowned Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Meursault, made a decision that raised more than a few eyebrows: to invest in the Mâconnais, a region that the Burgundian establishment had long overlooked. He was, in fact, the first grower from the Côte d'Or to stake a serious claim here, acquiring parcels around the village of Milly-Lamartine in Saône-et-Loire — the birthplace of the poet Lamartine, and a locality with a quietly distinguished viticultural history.

The estate today covers 26 hectares, spread across the slopes and elevated parcels that characterise this part of the Mâcon appellation. Altitudes of around 200 metres bring a welcome freshness to the wines, tempering the generosity that the Mâconnais climate can otherwise encourage. The result is Chardonnay of genuine tension and definition — closer in spirit to the wines of the Côte de Beaune than to the softer, more immediately accessible style that has historically defined the region.

A mosaic of soils, a parcel-by-parcel philosophy

What sets this estate apart from many of its neighbours is the remarkable diversity of its soils. Across the 26 hectares, the geology shifts from clay-limestone to pure limestone, then to schist and granite — a mosaic that demands careful, plot-by-plot attention rather than a single, uniform approach. Dominique Lafon understood from the outset that this complexity was an asset, not a complication, and the estate has always been managed with that parcel-level rigour in mind.

Organic and biodynamic farming from the ground up

The estate is certified to both organic and biodynamic standards — a commitment that reflects the Lafon family's broader philosophy at their Meursault domaine. In 2022, Léa and Pierre Lafon took over the day-to-day running of the estate, bringing fresh energy to a project that was already well established. Their approach maintains the founding principles: low intervention in the vineyard, attentive winemaking, and an unwavering focus on expressing the character of each individual parcel.

The wines: Chardonnay across the Mâcon appellation

  • Mâcon Blanc — The estate produces exclusively white wines from Chardonnay, vinified to reflect the specific character of each parcel. Wines from clay-limestone sites tend towards roundness and texture; those from schist and granite bring a more mineral, tautly structured profile. Across the range, the hallmark is precision and freshness, with the elevated vineyard sites lending a finesse that distinguishes these wines within the Mâconnais.

Why we have selected Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon Mâconnais

We have listed this estate at Halles Quercamps for three reasons that we find compelling. First, the pedigree: the Lafon name carries genuine authority in Burgundy, and the same standards of viticulture and winemaking that define the Meursault domaine are applied here without compromise. Second, the terroir: the mosaic of soils at Milly-Lamartine produces Chardonnays of real complexity and character, wines that reward attention and repay cellaring. Third, the integrity of the approach: organic and biodynamic certification is not a marketing exercise here — it is the natural extension of a philosophy that has been in place since the estate's founding in 1999.

We recommend these wines to enthusiasts who follow Burgundy closely and are curious to explore how a great Côte d'Or producer interprets the Mâcon appellation. They pair beautifully with fish dishes in cream or butter sauces, grilled scallops, and mature soft cheeses — and the more structured cuvées will reward a few years in the cellar.
