A vineyard born from one man's determination
It was Robert Vergniol who, in 1947, laid the foundations of Château Petit Bois by transforming open farmland into a working vineyard at the heart of the Bordeaux appellation. This was no inherited estate — it was built from the ground up, shaped by a clear conviction that these clay-limestone soils of Lussac had something genuine to offer. That founding ambition has never been lost.
A family estate across generations
Today, the château is co-managed by Christophe and Paul Baudet under the SCEA Vergniol B., carrying forward more than seventy-five years of accumulated knowledge of this particular corner of the Gironde. The 23-hectare vineyard sits on the clay-limestone soils characteristic of Lussac, a commune whose geology lends itself naturally to the structured, fruit-driven style for which this part of Bordeaux is known. The encépagement is classically Bordelais: Merlot provides the backbone of the reds, with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet-Sauvignon lending structure, depth and ageing potential. The whites, less widely known but worth seeking out, add a further dimension to the range.
