List of products by brand CHATEAU LE CROCK
Château le Crock stands as one of the most dependable addresses in the Saint-Estèphe appellation, combining a history stretching back to 1788 with a viticultural approach firmly oriented towards the future. Classified Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 2020, the château is listed as part of the Médoc's regional heritage.
A château rooted in Médoc history
The story of Château le Crock begins in 1788, when Pierre Merman acquired the property on the hillsides of Saint-Estèphe, in the Gironde. The estate changed hands in 1903, when the Cuvelier family — wine merchants established in Lille since 1804 — took ownership, bringing with them the commercial acumen and long-term vision that would shape the château's modern identity. Over more than a century, successive generations of the Cuvelier family have maintained and developed the property, preserving its character while investing in both vineyard and cellar. In 2018, Sara Lecompte Cuvelier assumed the helm, marking a new chapter defined by environmental commitment and a sharper focus on expressing the full potential of this exceptional terroir.
Terroir and vineyard
The vineyard extends across 32 hectares on east-facing slopes that look out over the Gironde estuary — an exposure that moderates temperatures and encourages even ripening. The soils are characteristically Médocain: gravel and sand at the surface, with clay subsoils that provide both drainage and water retention during dry summers. This combination gives the wines their structural backbone and the freshness that distinguishes Saint-Estèphe from its southern neighbours. The blend draws on four varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, a classic Médoc palette that allows the winemaking team to compose wines of depth and balance across each vintage.
Environmental commitment
Since 2018, Château le Crock has been engaged in a full organic conversion of the vineyard, alongside HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) certification — a meaningful dual commitment that reflects Sara Lecompte Cuvelier's determination to work with the land rather than against it. These are not cosmetic gestures: they represent a fundamental shift in how the estate manages its soils, its biodiversity, and its inputs. The result, over time, is a vineyard that expresses its terroir with greater clarity and honesty.
The wines of Château le Crock
The château produces exclusively red wines under the Saint-Estèphe appellation. These are structured, age-worthy Médoc reds built on the classic architecture of the appellation — firm tannins, dark fruit, and the mineral tension that gravel and clay soils impart so distinctively in this northern corner of the Haut-Médoc.

Why we have selected Château le Crock
At Halles Quercamps, we have listed Château le Crock for three reasons that matter to us as merchants. First, the rigour of the viticulture: the ongoing organic conversion and HVE certification are concrete, verifiable commitments, not marketing positions. Second, the coherence of the terroir expression: these are wines that taste unmistakably of Saint-Estèphe — structured, mineral, and built to age. Third, the continuity of a family project: the Cuvelier family's presence since 1903, and Sara Lecompte Cuvelier's leadership since 2018, give the estate a sense of purpose and direction that we find reassuring as selectors. We recommend these wines to confirmed Bordeaux enthusiasts who appreciate the firmer, more austere style of the northern Médoc, and who buy with a cellar in mind. At table, look to roasted lamb, aged hard cheeses, or a well-hung côte de bœuf.
