List of products by brand CHATEAU DAUZAC

Château Dauzac is a 5th Grand Cru Classé of Margaux, established at Labarde in the Gironde across 49 hectares of gravel soils farmed organically and biodynamically. Founded in 1545, it holds a remarkable place in viticultural history: Bordeaux mixture was first developed here in 1884, and in 2016 it became the first classified growth to achieve vegan certification. Under the Roulleau family since 2020, yields are kept deliberately low at 25 to 30 hl/ha, allowing the terroir to express itself with clarity. At Halles Quercamps, we selected this château for the consistency of its environmental commitment and the focused, terroir-driven character of its red wines.

Château Dauzac is one of the most historically significant addresses in the Margaux appellation: a 5th Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification, spread across 49 contiguous hectares at Labarde in the Gironde, and today farmed in full organic and biodynamic certification by the Roulleau family.

A founding address in Bordeaux history

Few châteaux can claim to have shaped the very science of viticulture. Château Dauzac was founded in 1545, making it one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. Yet its most enduring contribution to the wider wine world came in 1884, when Alexis Millardet, working at Dauzac, developed the celebrated Bordeaux mixture — the copper sulphate and lime solution that would protect vineyards from downy mildew and transform winemaking practice across the globe. That spirit of rigorous enquiry has never left the château. In 2016, Dauzac became the first classified growth in Bordeaux to achieve vegan certification, a milestone that reflects both technical precision and a genuine commitment to transparency. The château was acquired in 2020 by the Roulleau family, whose stewardship has reinforced the estate's direction towards responsible, low-intervention viticulture without sacrificing the classical ambition expected of a Margaux classified growth.

Terroir: gravel soils on the southern slopes of Margaux

The vineyard at Château Dauzac occupies a single, unbroken block — a rare advantage in the Médoc — on the gentle slopes of Labarde, the southernmost commune of the Margaux appellation. The soils are composed of deep Günzian gravel over an argilo-calcareous subsoil, providing excellent drainage and the kind of heat retention that brings Cabernet Sauvignon to full, unhurried ripeness. The proximity of the Gironde estuary moderates temperatures throughout the growing season, reducing the risk of both spring frost and summer excess. The vineyard is planted predominantly to Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and Petit Verdot — a blend well suited to the structure and aromatic finesse that characterise the finest wines of Margaux.

Organic, biodynamic, and HVE certified

Château Dauzac holds certification in organic agriculture, biodynamics, and Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE). Yields are maintained at a deliberate 25 to 30 hl/ha — well below the appellation norm — concentrating flavour and preserving the integrity of each vintage. In the winery, the approach is equally considered: minimal intervention, careful élevage, and a refusal to mask the character of the terroir beneath heavy-handed winemaking. The result is a wine of genuine Margaux identity: precise, structured, and built for the cellar.

The wines of Château Dauzac

The château produces red wines exclusively under the Margaux appellation, reflecting the singular focus of the estate on its classified terroir:

  • Château Dauzac (Grand Vin) — the principal label; a structured, cellar-worthy Margaux of depth and classical proportion, built on Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Petit Verdot in support.
  • Labarde de Dauzac — the second wine; approachable earlier, yet sharing the same biodynamic vineyard philosophy and the characteristic elegance of the appellation.

Why we have selected Château Dauzac

At Halles Quercamps, we are drawn to producers whose environmental convictions are matched by the quality in the glass — and Château Dauzac offers both in full measure. The triple certification (organic, biodynamic, HVE), the historically low yields, and the vegan accreditation since 2016 speak to a château that takes its responsibilities seriously, without using them as a marketing shortcut. The wines themselves reward patience: structured, precise, and firmly rooted in the identity of Margaux. We recommend Château Dauzac to confirmed Bordeaux enthusiasts looking to add a certified classified growth to their cellar, and to those who wish to give a bottle with genuine provenance and a compelling story. At table, the grand vin pairs beautifully with rack of lamb, aged hard cheeses, or a well-hung côte de bœuf.
