List of products by brand CHATEAU BEAUREGARD

Set on the south-eastern edge of the Pomerol plateau, Château Beauregard covers 17 hectares farmed organically on the gravelly clay and sandy soils that define this appellation. Founded in 1677, this Napoleonic chartreuse — whose architecture inspired the Guggenheim family when building their Long Island estate — was acquired in 2014 by the Moulin and Cathiard families, who drove a thorough organic conversion and comprehensive replanting programme. The blend is led by Merlot at 70%, with Cabernet Franc at 27%, producing precise, terroir-driven reds of real character. At Halles Quercamps, we selected this château for the rigour of its organic approach, the coherence of its project since 2014, and the typicity of its reds on one of Bordeaux's most demanding appellations.

Château Beauregard stands as one of the most compelling addresses in the Pomerol appellation, bringing together three centuries of history and a thoroughly modern, organically farmed project across 17 hectares on the celebrated plateau.

A château rooted in the history of Pomerol

Founded in 1677, Château Beauregard is among the oldest properties in the commune of Pomerol, in the Gironde. Its elegant Napoleonic chartreuse has a story that reaches well beyond Bordeaux: the Guggenheim family so admired its architecture that they modelled their Long Island residence upon it, naming the property Mille-Fleurs. For centuries the château changed hands through the great families of the region before a decisive turning point arrived in 2014, when the Moulin and Cathiard families took ownership. Their arrival marked not a change of name but a change of ambition — a root-and-branch renewal of the vineyard, the winemaking approach, and the estate's long-term direction.

Terroir and viticulture: the south-eastern plateau of Pomerol

The 17-hectare vineyard sits on the south-eastern border of the Pomerol plateau, where soils shift between gravel, clay, and sand — a mosaic that gives the wines both structure and suppleness. The encépagement is anchored by Merlot at 70%, complemented by Cabernet Franc at 27% and a small complement of Cabernet Sauvignon at 3%. This blend is well suited to the terroir: Merlot thrives on the clay-rich pockets, while Cabernet Franc brings aromatic lift and fine-grained tannin. The south-eastern exposure ensures good ripening without sacrificing freshness — a balance that is increasingly valued in the context of warmer vintages.

Organic certification and the new direction since 2014

Since the Moulin and Cathiard families took over, Château Beauregard has been converted to certified organic farming (Agriculture Biologique). The transition reflects a genuine commitment to the health of the vineyard and the integrity of the terroir, rather than a marketing gesture. Work in the vines has been overhauled, with greater attention to soil life, canopy management, and reduced intervention. The result is a vineyard that expresses its appellation with growing clarity and consistency across vintages.

The wines of Château Beauregard

The château produces red wines exclusively under the Pomerol appellation. The range typically includes:

  • Château Beauregard Pomerol — the grand vin, a structured, age-worthy red combining the depth of Merlot with the precision of Cabernet Franc on gravelly clay soils
  • Benjamin de Beauregard — the second wine, offering earlier accessibility while retaining the character of the estate's terroir

Both wines are produced from organically farmed fruit and reflect the south-eastern plateau's capacity for elegance and longevity.

Why we have selected Château Beauregard

At Halles Quercamps, we have been listing Château Beauregard because it represents something increasingly rare in Pomerol: a historic property with genuine renewal behind it, not simply a change of label. The Moulin and Cathiard families have invested seriously in both the vineyard and the cellar since 2014, and the organic conversion is thorough and certified — not a work in progress. The typicity of the reds is consistent: the gravelly clay terroir comes through clearly in the structure and the aromatic profile, vintage after vintage. We recommend these wines to confirmed Bordeaux enthusiasts who value terroir-driven reds with the capacity to develop over time in the cellar. At the table, the grand vin pairs naturally with roast lamb, duck confit, or a well-aged hard cheese; Benjamin de Beauregard is well suited to a relaxed dinner with braised beef or a mushroom-rich dish.
